For the Most Part

What value do you place on gigging musicians? This week, host Kemi sat down with Jehiah Hope, a usual face and voice on this podcast to talk about a prominent issue in the local scene: the value of musical performances, and whether or not, musicians also value themselves and their skills. Let's just say, these two held nothing back, and honesty was on the discussion table. At the forefront of the discussion, it is clear that within our industry, there's possibly no metric or standard for what the going rate for performances are.

You already know where to find Jehiah

It's Episode 17, folks! This week we're talking to Jehiah Hope - a dear friend of this podcast! He's a composer, flautist, educator, producer and sound engineer. He's been composing for well over a decade and credits his ABRSM Grade 5 theory exam prep for launching his composition journey.

In this episode, we'll talk about his composition career, the ins and outs of mixing and mastering, and his journey in producing and releasing the EP. Omo is a Yoruba word meaning 'child'. The album features well-known samples from childhood movies and songs, including the 1971 film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. Get Jehiah & Friend's EP Omo on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Amazon here! Stalk him on social media, too.

Sit back, relax and enjoy!

Lyrix is up to a lot. He's recently relocated and is intent on taking his career to the next level. He's releasing a new EP soon, and it's been in the works since 2018. Given that he's in a new place that embraces hip-hop, he's adjusting to the new norm around him.

This week we feature Cory KayCe. He was a guest on Season 2, to which we gave you the introduction. He "zoomed" with host Kemi Ible this time around to touch base with him regarding his recent release "Breakdown" ft Illusionist and other upcoming projects. Cory also has a podcast on Spotify called Early Morning Moments where he speaks on the daily experiences of life. His podcast looks initially was a means of him expressing himself, but now has evolved into a podcast that other artistes like himself can relate to and find comfort.

Grab some headphones this week as we deep dive into the mindset and emotions of musicians, performers and artists.

What better way to end the month than with a follow-up with the HOLA team? This week we chatted with the executive team Paul, Michael, and  this week, including a Mr. Anthony Duncan.

Let us just say, we are absolutely delighted that the team has made exceptional progress, hitting the international stage at the Dubai Expo. The HOLA concert will be broadcasted virtually over the course of the next few months. Cost of tickets are still an affordable $12.25USD. Door prizes also will be given away as well:

**  SANCH has partnered with EXPORTT and The Steelpan Tuners’ Guild of Trinidad and Tobago (STGTT) to donate samples from its diverse steelpan treasury to three individuals, organizations, or entities who visit the Trinidad and Tobago Pavilion during Expo 2020 Dubai and buy tickets to HOLA Encore. There is also the chance of winning a “pan kit” along with fifteen hours of online tuition worth $1500.00, 30 assorted CDs from the SANCH catalogue valued at $500.00 and two hard-cover books on steelpan history valued at $200.00, respectively. The artifacts will be shipped from Trinidad to the lucky winners randomly generated by a computer, irrespective of their location.

** (Winners will be randomly drawn and announced on all social media platforms after 5000 tickets are sold.)
For more information as to how you can purchase tickets please visit the 'HOLA Concert' Tab on our site to purchase.

Yes, we're doing an album review! Or rather, TWO album reviews! This week, our host Kemi and local musician Jehiah Hope went in on these two albums. As you may know, Donda and Certified Lover Boy dropped within days of each other - August 29th and September 3rd respectively - and both were equally hyped up and anticipated by eager fans and music critics.

In this discussion, we're looking at each album's sound as a whole, which numbers we liked best, the tracks we're not so sure about, and the marketing strategies behind both albums. Tell us - are you feeling #Donda's experimental gospel rap vibe, or are you team #CLB? Let us know in the comments!

Jehiah Hope is no stranger to our podcast. We've had him in Season 1 and Season 2, so obviously, we needed to have him back again! Jehiah is a local flutist, producer, and educator.

This week we decided to that an honourable artist reaction was due. One of the best in our books (who by the way is a part of our vocal trinity), is none other than Shelèa (Mrs. Shelèa Frazier - McDonald). To us she is a vocal phenomenon who is powerhouse full of control, execution and technique. She is also a musician, specifically a pianist.
However the conversation in today's episode is connecting with YOU artist. So here's what to do:

This week, our host, Kemi, and resident writer Louise came together to discuss the idea of a 'Vocal Trinity.' Most say that the ultimate Vocal Trinity is made up of Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion. Kemi and Louise sat down and discussed why these three iconic singers hold this prestigious recognition, as well as their vocal influences. We looked at the vocal range of these three legends and asked ourselves if vocal range alone determines a singer's abilities. (This is not the case, obviously!)
We also thought about all of our former guests from Seasons 1 & 2. Who would be the 'Vocal Trinity' of the eclectic range of artists that have blessed our podcast? And what about today's cohort of popular powerhouse vocalists - who is today's 'Vocal Trinity'?
