What does it mean to be an intentional christian, to live an intentional life? It’s a daily dedication of our lives to living for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It doesn’t mean that we will always follow through. Sometimes we may even fail miserably. But an Intentional Christian lives with the goal: “Today, I give my all for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Self-control is the discipline of delaying impulse or gratification for a greater purpose or cause. When we exercise self-control, we are saying “no” for the sake of a bigger and better “yes.” We are trading something in the here and now for something greater in the future. In order to develop self-control, we must first be honest with ourselves about our weaknesses. Each one of us is different. Some of us are tempted by overeating, others by greed or gossip. By being aware of what tempts us, we can take our struggles to God. Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit, and we have self-control when we “keep in step” with the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25). He empowers us to overcome temptation.

The ache and discomfort of pain can be agonizing, but it is necessary and always beneficial. God created us, not to stay stagnant, but to always be growing in Him and becoming more like Jesus. But it’s not easy, and we can certainly stunt it. Coming out of this growing pains season, we shouldn’t be stunted in our growth - but even more equipped to do what the Lord has called us to do.
