We tried to nip at each other and create entertaining sparks for listeners but we fell short of our goal. Rather than actually argue about something we spent most of this podcast talking about the art of arguing. It was, to be most honest, cowardly. I made fun of David's use of the word "scolded" but that only incited giggling, not verbal fisticuffs. But we experienced a first. AFTER we stopped recording we lowered our voices and talked about the most honest conflicts have lived with over the years: in our marriages. So we've resolved to actually bring issues to the table next week (preparation??!!) so we can explore whether we might legitimately disagree and drop the gloves…like we did about 10 years ago when I insisted that David was not allowed to hate Tim Tebow, a Christian brother, just because he led the Broncos to victory over our beloved Bears. We need to strengthen our relationship by subjecting it to the hot cauldron of disagreement and coming out of that bout with deeper love and respect for each other. Our marriages have convinced us this is true.
