Dear Liz, I am in a quandary. I got a call from a third-party recruiter who was working on filling a position at a company I had heard decent things about. My team just got downsized for the second time in two years, so I jumped at the opportunity when the recruiter called me. The recruiter’s  name is Mitch. He placed me one time before. He’s a great guy and a straight shooter.

As Americans in many industries increasingly work longer hours than previous generations and technology continues to facilitate the seepage of work life into home life, companies that prioritize their employees’ work-life balance become increasingly attractive.

No one listens when you speak. No one objects when you don’t. No one says anything about your work. Your ideas are dismissed without discussion. You’re not being underestimated; you’re not being evaluated at all. And this is frustrating. This is unsustainable. You’re certain that your work is valuable, worth talking about, responding to and leveraging. You know that what you are doing is worthwhile, if only someone would notice.

According to a recent Forbes poll, 69% of users play at work , and according to Vox.com, 40% of adults who have downloaded the app are 25 or older.

Earlier this month, Forbes reported on the occupations where employees held the sunniest outlooks on the future. But which jobs have workers feeling gloomier? To determine which occupations, industries, and regions are contributing to employee’s positive take on the future, salary comparison site PayScale surveyed 425,219 workers in the U.S.
