Our company presentsat over 50 trade shows and 30 other ski-related events, and I travel around and supervise our booth teams at almost all of them. There are three of us in the Trade Show Management team. I’m the Senior guy on our team and there are two younger folks who are both about 25.

For years we’ve heard that hiring managers and recruiters will spend five to ten seconds reading your resume — and no more. Of course, you cannot really read a resume in five or ten seconds. I’ve read tens of thousands of resumes over the years and I still read resumes every day. It takes time, and if you advertised a need for candidates, then you should have the time.

We’d recently moved for my husband’s job, but until I secured a new position as well, we were staying with his family an hour drive away—which, coupled with his demanding work schedule, made it so I barely saw him at all. But I was searching for a role that would do more than help us afford our own apartment.

Dear Liz, I have a problem at work. When I started my job six years ago, the company was a very relaxed place to work. We worked hard but everybody left the office by five-forty-five or six at night. Now we stay late almost every night. There always seems to be an emergency. I don’t mind the evening hours so much, because I’m single and I wouldn’t have much of a night life even if I had my evenings free. My problem is that I don’t like to work on weekends.
