A company can be a great instrument to change the world if you use it in the right way, said Diva Moriani, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at KME Germany. Moriani began her career in private equity at a time when she was outnumbered as a female. She discussed the gendered confidence gap in professional settings and argued that the key to success is confidence. She said that if you want to manage a successful business, you must first understand where you want to go, considering the changing environment. Then, you have to be really careful about how to manage people and communication.
As somebody who has always been interested in social issues, Moriani pushed for her corporation to found a philanthropic initiative fully sponsored by the company in 2007. The non-profit is a summer camp for children with serious illnesses, free of charge, and located in Tuscany. Around 2000 kids attend every year to spend a simple holiday with peers so that they can be surrounded by people who understand their condition. Her goal of founding this initiative was to do something in the non-profit area with the same level of professional approach as in the for-profit area. Moriani concluded with the promise that you will see results if you have enough drive and are willing to put in the work.
The London Speaker Series is Part II of talks by Ginger F. Zaimis, Author, Poet and Fordham University London Advisory Board Member, which are being delivered at the distinguished Freud Museum London entitled, "Therapy with Antigone: Myth Choice & Destiny" and Fordham University London Campus.
