Lanna B . and Alan Rustage are high school sweethearts who married and moved to Iran to teach in 1976, when they were in their twenties. Together, they carved out a heartwarming and interesting life in Tehran's international community. Eventually, like most other foreigners, they became embroiled in the dangeres of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, leading to departure and sadness of leaving behind their Iranian life forever. Having lived in Spain since 1979, Lanna describes many interesting concepts about Iran: how to become invisible in a place where women, especially foreign women, were gazed at forcefully in public; notes on the Empress Farah Pahlavi's visit to their school, Iranzamin Tehran; how they returned to Iran on a flight that landed with no ground controls (!) when most other foreigners were escaping Iran; International School; an adventure at a hotel in western Iran near the Iraqi border; and the Spanish Falangist women's cookbook!

Former airline executive turned creative actor, writer, producer and artist Kayo Jijina describes growing up as a Parsi (from India) in Tehran from birth to age 16. He talks about how his father, the first mechanical engineer for Iran Air, his school, Iranzamin Tehran International School, his family's religion, jube dogs, matchmaking and arranged marriages, his children and grandchildren, and more.

In this podcast I interview Mikhal Dekel about her book which investigates the odyssey of her father and aunt's escape - as children during WWII - from Nazi and Soviet theaters of war and genocide, traveling through Tehran, Iran. I inquire about the personal and historic aspects of the journey, and discuss the new framework Dekel has uncovered for the story of the 250,000 of about 3 million Polish Jews who survived extermination by escaping East into Soviet prison camps. The story of the approximately one thousand Jewish children who are relocated to Israel is the most personal aspect of Mikhal's story, as her family members are two of the "Tehran Children".
