Forge The Narrative - Warhammer 40k Podcast

WOW!  If you missed it or didn’t think you needed to watch it please go watch the Warhammer 40k 9th Edition teaser trailer.  It is amazing!  The best animation we’ve seen out of GW yet.  It’s got us pumped. We run down our reactions to the 9 things you need to know about 9th.

Hey guys,

We are also doing live shows now. This is available in the replay on Twitch and the FTN Youtube page. We’ll post times on Paul’s twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Live streams start up again very soon. Please subscribe if you haven’t already!  Check out the new FTN homepage too.

We jump right into the 40k 9th coverage after a brief intro.  On the show I ask you to check out my friend’s webstore.  It would really help them out and it can be found here.  Grand Adventures is one of those stores we all wished we had in our town.  It would mean a lot to me if you checked them out.  Please do!

Please please please check out the new Forge The Narrative objective markers. These things look awesome. Ordering a set is a good way to support one of our sponsors AND the show. Find them here.

One of the major take aways from the preview is ‘being able to enjoy’ 40k at any size.  This is interesting to me because we have ’40k in many forms’ right now with Kill Team, Necromunda, different point games, power level play etc.   The reasons some off these formats aren’t as popular – to me- is that they don’t really capture what 40k on a 4×6 table is.  Will this any size option do that now?  I hope so.

Adam and I are incredibly executed about the change to Command Points.  Some armies like Custodes and Harlequins struggle to get the CP needed to fund their Stratagems.  To make them work you often have to dip into another codex to fill slots to get the CP.  Sounds like this is changing in a big way.  It sounds like we’ll all start from an even level and use them to potentially pay for whatever advantages we think we need in our list design.  It sounds awesome.

There is so much to unpack from the preview. We spend the whole show talking about it. We know there is more to come.  Heck.. we have two more Psychic Awakening books to get to right?!  Needless to say we’re gonna be busy and have tons to talk about.

We have some big news to share about Best Coast Pairings and Down Under Parings this week.  We bring them on together to talk about it.  Adam and Paul talk more about Nobz and Harlequins.  Later in the show John from 40k Today joins me.  It’s a great week!

Hey all,

We kick off the show talking about Meganobz and the best way to equip them.  This has been a side project of mine for a while and it’s fun to finally start messing with these kits.

I’m delighted to be joined by Paul Mckelvey and Joshua Diffey this week to talk about the amazing partnership between BCP and DUP.  These systems have been making it much easier for organizers to run tournaments for the last several years.  Now.. It’s getting even better.  They talk about some of the enhancements and please see the screen grabs below.

I sit down with John DeMaris  of 40k Today. We talk about why he is doing what he’s doing and the team behind the 40k Today show.  He’s a fun guy to get to know and chat with.  I really hope you check these guys out more often.

In the hobby section we talk about the benefits of sub assembly.  It’s not for everyone.  If you think it’s for you ‘how’ you do it really matters too.  I talk about using bits of sprue as your supports and it’s working out pretty well for me.

Hey guys, we have a very special episode this week.  Not only do we use the nerd holiday as an excuse to talk about Star Wars we also introduce some kindred spirits from 40k Today into the mix. In the last segment of the show we  give our thoughts on the new Admech models coming soon in Psychic Awakening.

Hey guys,

Live shows are coming to you next week. This is available in the replay on Twitch and the FTN Youtube page. We’ll post times on Paul’s twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

We kick the show off talking a little bit about how people are spending their quarantine time.  We talk a little bit about a listeners army list question submission about Black Templars but the segment is mostly about playing how you want to play.  We also talk about the stellar partnership between Best Coast Pairings and Down Under Pairings.  Expect great things from this.

We complain about the new Star Wars movies while confessing our love for the old Star Wars and the new fabulous animated properties.  I highly suggest checking out season 7 of the Clone Wars if you haven’t already.

In the middle of the show we insert an episode of 40k Today.  These  folks are doing phenomenal work bringing interesting concepts and ideas to their listeners.  It’s a 15 minutes daily show where you have the pleasure of hearing from people from ALL over the world doing their thing.  I highly suggest you check them out.

Hobby progress is all we have this week but that ain’t so bad. I’m using this time to get my hobby area organized and try new things. Thanks to everyone who has written in asking about board games. It has been a fun exercise. Keep them coming.

Paul and Thomas chat about the hobby and play-testing for the new meta – whatever that is?  This episode has a real sit and chat feel that I hope you enjoy.  We some really cool hobby tricks shown in this month’s White Dwarf.

Hey all,

Live shows are coming to you next week. This is available in the replay on Twitch and the FTN Youtube page. We’ll post times on Paul’s twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

The Death Watch get their Psychic Awakening in this month’s White Dwarf magazine.  Basically this just brings them up to speed on the new Marine standard template for Stratagems.  That may not sound like much but those are the bread and butter for Space Marine players and some of them will definitely be used every game.  The Death Watch are already a ‘flashy’ Marine army with access to impressive firepower.  The new (to them) Stratagems enhance their already strong Bolters.

Cleaning up the hobby area as lead to lost models! Ha. No good deed goes unpunished. Take this as a lesson – never clean up. Leave everything out where you can see it! Ha, I am only kidding but I’m sure everyone has felt this frustration before. I’m sure these guys will turn up.

We wax on and wishlist for the Unification War board game that will never be but hey!, it’s fun to talk about.

Rick and Red join Paul this week to talk about the story rippling through the 40k community from the Psychic Awakening this week. Is it Loyalty?  Is it Arrogance?  Doesn’t the Imperium do a good job at both?  We skate on the edge of Heresy this week and hope you come along for the ride.

We waited to record this week until after the studio preview.  Sorry for the late upload!  In this episode we give our reactions to the announcements and the lovely new models.  What do do you think the odds are that the Inquisition becomes an actual playable force?

Hey all,

We did another live show this week too!. This is available in the replay on Twitch and the FTN Youtube page. This was a ‘cold launch’ so that explains why you may not have seen it but we really appreciate the folks that joined in to watch and joined the chat. We’ll do it again next week with a little better of an announcement.

The studio previews were great.  It’s a little short on ’40k news’ but I think GW is trying to meter their information right now during this slow down.  I can’t blame them, the information is still flowing and they are clearly showing they will adapt to the situation and attempt to keep us happy.  This episode is a full on jaunt through our reactions and ‘why’ we feel the way we do.  The things we saw yesterday are ripe with nods to the lore and it’s hard not to get execited.

I’m drawn more and more to the Lumineth Realmlords, the figures are making it almost impossible to resist!

I have friends that play Necrons and I can tell you they are pumped about finally getting a little attention from Psychic Awakening.  The previewed model is AMAZING.

The who show is a hobby talk. I mention my Ork Flesh recipe – Waagh Flesh, Coelia Green Shade, Dry brush Warboss Green, Dry brush Ushtabti Bone. The Dry brushes are incredibly light. You get a poor man’s edge highlight.

Ricky, Paul and Adam roll out this week talking about how to keep engaged during the time of social distancing.  The middle part of the show Paul is joined by Matthias Weeks from Adpeticon to discuss the struggles they faced leading up to cancellation and the way forward.

Hey guys,

This week we had our very first live show.  This is available in the replay on Twitch and the FTN Youtube page.  This was a ‘cold launch’ so that explains why you may not have seen it but we really appreciate the folks that joined in to watch and joined the chat.  We’ll do it again next week with a little better of an announcement.

In the first part of the show we talk a little bit about Space Wolves tactics and then jump over to talk about Orks in the hobby. There is no wrong way to do it.  Adam made me spill the beans that I’m working on Orks again.  It was also a nice excuse to order from my friends and sponsors who sell hobby equipment and supplies.  Meganobs are the way to go!

Please please please check out the new Forge The Narrative objective markers. These things look awesome. Ordering a set is a good way to support one of our sponsors AND the show. Find them here.

In the middle Matthias Weeks tells us all about the moments leading up to the cancellation of Adpeticon this year.  We get to spend a moment or two in their shoes and the incredibly large decisions they had to make.

In the last part of the show we wishlist for White Dwarf and reflect on the changes its had over the years.  Right now it is the best its ever been.  If you haven’t checked it out I highly suggest it.  The talk also led Adam to reflect on one of his favorite hobby memories and a treasured miniature.

We sit and decompress a bit in this show. Paul also sits down with Carl Tuttle from the ICs this week for nice long catch up chat.

Hi all,

I’m working with some new equipment on my side this week.  I’m feeling it out and hopefully will have it all set up the way I like it for the next show.

We run down the highlights from the GW preview last week.

Please please please check out the new Forge The Narrative objective markers. These things look awesome. Ordering a set is a good way to support one of our sponsors AND the show. Find them here.

In the middle of the show Paul and Carl swap a couple of stories about Adepticon and traveling to Warhammer World.  It was great to speak with him and record it.

In the last part of the show we discuss the evil exploits of Fabius Bile and speculate on what his rules may be.

Finishing Moves this week is about painting pink. Please check out my pics on Instagram or Twitter. I’m paining some Goliaths for Necromunda and settled on what turned out to be a pretty cool color scheme.

Hey all, thanks for listening to us.  We know a lot of folks may be cooped up at home and we really appreciate you guys continuing to make us part of your entertainment.  In this show we start with some hobby talk and close the show talking about Space Wolves list ideas.

Hi all,

I had two hobby catastrophes this week.  I lost my hobby journal and a set of Eliminator heads.  Thankfully they have both been found, ha!  It was a terrifying 6 minutes.

The first part of the show is hobby talk and some good ole fashioned hanging out.  I figure we can all use that right now.  More to come on that. You’ll soon be able to join us before we record for some hobby fuel and chat.

Please please please check out the new Forge The Narrative objective markers. These things look awesome. Ordering a set is a good way to support one of our sponsors AND the show. Find them here.

In the second part of the show we talk about the idea of including Dark Angels in with your Space Wolves.  It’s a fun risk vs reward discussion.  I’m interested in hearing your take on it as well.

Folks get real skeptical about ‘souping’ now.  Has that stigma passed?

We lead off with the biggest and greenest thing in the Galaxy.  The Orks get a TON of help from this book with endless new things to try.  The second part of the show we spend a lot of time talking about how degenerate Ragnar Blackmane is.  He does everything and does it well.  We close the show with a word about our community.

Hi guys,

Wowzer.  Ghaz is back with a brand new mission.  We talk about how the Orks basically get a huge pump of life back into their codex. There is some love and joy for almost every unit in the book.  We are impressed.  Just about every army will need to consider taking Ghaz and Makari and every opponent will need a plan to deal with them.

In the second part of the show we run down a lot of really powerful things you can accomplish with Rangar.  He is a total beat stick and force multiplier.  He’s aggressively pointed to say the least.  If you play Space Wolves he is an auto include.

The two new character models are gorgeous.  Even if you don’t feel like they need to be in your list you are certainly going to want them in your collection.

We close the show out talking about the community.  While it would mean a lot to us at the show if you directly support our sponsors we think it is also especially important to support the shops in your back yard.   If you have the means to do it, please consider it.  Thank you.
