Army building is a personal journey sometimes. Sometimes you can save a lot of time borrowing list ideas from other people. We often think of netlisting as just taking point for point in a tournament winner’s list but it’s also just fine to get ideas from other people.
Hey hey,
So sorry that we missed last week. I hope that things calm down schedule wise for everyone soon so we can get back to the normal rotation. I missed it! Josh Ginn fills in this week. He’s a panelist from a LONG time ago and now he’s back. Glad he could pinch in this week.
Netlisting is fine. There is no reason not to do it. It happens in almost every competitive environment. If you can’t get out in front of the curve you should at least embrace it if you plan to do well in competitive events.
I don’t see anything wrong borrowing the ideas of others. It even feels good to see your ideas used by other people in games like this. There is a ‘stigma’ to but that stigma basically comes from haters who want to disparage the netlister because they didn’t come up with the idea themselves. So what?
Borrowing ideas like this is a time saver. I am definitely not suggesting that borrowing ‘intellectual property’ is a good idea. That’s theft and wrong. But there is no ‘ownership’ of a good list idea. If you think it’s something that’s right for you then by all means build and play it. You’re the one who has to buy, build and paint the models.
It’s also fun to innovate. If you’re struggling to come up with something you like its very possible you need to use one of these other successful lists as a base then sub out some stuff you don’t like and then add in what you do. Careful with changing too much before you test it though..
The Wrong Way Kids will be putting on their first official public event later this year the Armageddon Series: Coastal Assault. Tickets are up for sale right now. Please join us. You will have a good time. It will be a full ITC format event and an excellent opportunity to get ITC overall and faction points.

Paul talks about a couple of his playtest games this past week. We talk about it a lot but nothing replaces playtesting. It can, in the long run, save you tons of time and money. Skari joins us to talk about it and media influencing. In the middle of the show we’re joined by one of the organizers from Battle for the Peak – a 40k tournament.
Hey all,
I played two of the Astra Militarum variants I’ve been working on this past weekend and learned a lot. The ‘stronger’ of the builds did the worst which really took me back to the thoughts on how important it is to playtest games. You can find yourself loading up too heavily on the lower performing units or maybe you didn’t realize you were building in a weakness for yourself when you were crafting your super powerful ‘can’t be beaten list.’
That exactly what happened in at least one of the games we briefly talk about. Had I not put it on the table to see how it would work out I could have made some seriously expensive purchases out of context. We can read a powerful unit on paper but sometimes just seeing in the flow of the game is what we need.
In the middle of the show John Lennon joins us to talk about the tournament he ran a couple of weeks ago, the Battle for the Peak. This event is in Florida in the US, using ITC missions and format. It’s also the kick off event for the Armageddon Series. You can find the current Armageddon Series standings here.
In the back part of the show Skari and Paul talk about Influencers. We get asked a lot about how people can get into this game and we try to share a few thoughts.
The Wrong Way Kids will be putting on their first official public event later this year the Armageddon Series: Coastal Assault. Tickets are up for sale right now. Please join us. We kick the show off talking about the Ynnari changes in this month’s White Dwarf. This another great issue with tons of painting and hobby articles. It also has a full index re-write for Ynarri. This changes are significant. It radically changes how this faction will be played. Later in the show we talk about Dark Angels!
Hey guys
Ynarri get a massive overhaul this month. It might not be exactly clear when we’re talking about it but when you create your detachment you can choose to declare it a Ynarri detachment. This doesn’t ‘replace’ the faction key world but it does lock you out from being about to use the various other space elf Stratagems etc. I apologize if that isn’t clear in our audio message as we may have not specifically covered this nuance after we kicked off the recording.
Strength from Death becomes strictly melee based and no longer gives the benefit of ‘double actions.’ This will be a MUCH welcomed change for Ynarri opponents. This cuts down on the current builds offensive power immensely. Dark Reapers and Shining Spears will still be good, just not OP – Maybe.
In the second part of the show we let Ricky go off about Dark Angels. Strangely enough he’s the number 3 Dark Angel player in the world at the time of recording in the ITC. Who knew? The Secret is out.
He talks about what’s working for him in his lists but we’d love to hear from you about what you’re taking with this faction if you’re going for a Single Faction List. We’ll continue to do the faction focuses so if there are ANY armies out there that you’re doing well with and not choosing to dip into allies please let us know.

Paul talks with Jim Vesal about his success and approach to the game. We kick the show off with a brief FAQ discussion and then get into a great segment with Jim.
Hey hey,
Getting back to normal this week we start the show with Paul and Val briefly talking about the FAQ release. Just about every faction in the game got touched so it’s impossible for us to go over this week in too much detail.
I was traveling this week for work so I apologize in advance for the late publish of this show. Hopefully it’s worth the wait The insight that Jim gives is refreshing and its really cool to see it playing out in his stream of tournament wins.
We get a brief look inside the mind of a great player and cool person. He’s a long time devotee to the ruinous powers. With all the love Chaos is getting it will be cool to see how his lists develop.
Val and Paul close out the show with a little more FAQ talk and hopes of what will hopefully add more diversity to the tournament tabletops.

I’m not even sure where to start with this one.. We lore wishlist for 30 or so minutes. I apologize to the tournament players who download this. We’ll be back to normal next week. We kick of the show talking about the Horus Heresy and move on to Abaddon defeating student loans. Then we chat a bit about the Grey Knight responses we received from last week.
Hey all,
I think every now and then we end up with a silly episode. This is it.
We sort of gush over Sanguinius for a while and then end up talking about how the fall of Cadia was a good thing. Bad guys offer a different perspective.
We talk a little bit about checking on your buddies during trying times. We joke a bit about it but it’s a real topic. I hope we don’t come off as too flippant about it. Know that it is something we understand and appreciated.
There was a ton of response from our Grey Knight episode. It was a lot of folks telling us we were wrong to suggest the amount of Dread Knights we did. It’s fair to point out that GK have the second lowest win ratio of any codex right now so maybe the suggestions from the listeners are a response to that and the lack of Dread Knights is what they took out to help that win ratio start to climb.
Coming up at the end of the month a few of us will be at the Barnyard Brawl. I’m happy to be a sponsor of this event and will be playing. We’re talking about Grey Knights this week. Recently they climbed a slot to be the second worst performing faction in the game right now, just above Blood Angels. Is it possible to win with these guys? Is it you or the Army List?
Hey hey,
Ricky is back this week to join Chris and I in the first part of the show. We’re then joined in part two by Skari from the Skaredcast. We’re talking about Grey Knights… they were once a dominant faction but have now been relegated to the bottom tables. Is it is the codex or the players?
The codex lacks a lot of synergy and power.. they definitely lost the Stratagem/Chapter Tactic lottery. Still.. There is life in this book and hope for Grey Knight players. We stat away from wishlisting or complaining about the codex and instead stick to ‘what we would take’ if we plan to win more than we lose.
You can’t afford to take a lot fat in your list and your troops are too expensive to pack in an excess of Command Points. That seems to just fine though… The Stratagems you want to use are inexpensive and matter most at the start of the game when you have the most to burn anyway.
Start with Grand Master Dreadknights and three Strike Squads.

After a little preamble we talk about list design. We talk about how to detach yourself from the things you want to have in the list and boil it down to the things you need. We also talk about some upcoming events and tournaments.
Hey guys,
Thank you all for listening and the support. We have a couple of t-shirts up for sale on Teespring. Please check them out. After a lot of thought I decided to do a pilot run on this service. Please check them out here. Please also consider leaving us a five star review in whatever service you listen to the show. I’ll read every five star review on air.
In the first part of the show we chat about our real world science and the first pictures complied of a black hole 55 million light years away. It’s crazy to think about but also something that gives good perspective in life.
In part two get get down and dirty with army list design. We talk specifically about an Ork list but then more general about how you make sense of all the options that an army provides. Its easy to get distracted by the shiny toys and the things we think we need…
I’m as guilty as anyone else. – I play the Wouldn’t It Be Cool If scenario in my head and look to pull of unrealistic combos or thin efficiencies during the game. That adds up to taking losses. We don’t want that! Hopefully this chat helps you take an objective look as well.

We start the show with an Adpeticon 2019 recap then later in the show we chat about how to control the variance in your army list. We do this with an eye specifically on the ITC Best In Faction award changes. We have two special segments in this episode too. It’s not quite a double sized show but I hope it makes up for the gaffe last week.
Hey hey,
Archon Skari joins me again this week. The regular guys were out with family stuff or recovering from the big Adpeticon weekend. I don’t make it a secret that I’m not happy about not making the Team Tournament Showcase but we still had a great time. We didn’t do as well as we wanted but eh.. it just wasn’t our year. It didn’t dampen the shine of the convention.. In fact, the event was just as great or better than it has ever been before. THOUSANDS of gamers all in one place and it was epic.
I caught up with Carl Tuttle from the ICs this past weekend and we recorded a spot face to face. I hope you enjoy it. I always have a good time with Carl. Now he’s an official Warhammer Hero!
Part two with Skari and I is about making changes to your army list to minimize the variance in your die rolls. Most codexes have ‘support’ options that maybe you don’t take. Maybe you get tired of not seeing the benefit for most of the game. We argue that it may only take one or two phases over the course of a game to flip your record to a winning score. Maybe picking up an extra hit or over the course of a 5 round tournament ends up making an incremental difference.
When playing with a single faction you’ve got to look for every way to maximize your performance and ‘smooth out’ those rough die rolling rounds. It happens to all of us. Bad die rolls don’t have to be the reason you lose the game. It’s so easy to blame the dice and we do play a dice game but sometimes that keeps us from looking objectively at our tactics and our lists.
Caleb Wissenback and Justin Keefer join me from CK Studios to speak about their involvement in the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation and their traveling painting classes. I’ve heard nothing but good things about these classes and I hope you had a chance to meet them at Adepticon. Please check them out.

Finishing Moves this week is another segment on figure salvage. Salvage can be anything from buying something cheap from the internet or a swap meet, getting a figure from a buddy or finding some old figures in your closet. Sometimes you just need to give the figs a little TLC and you can have a modern marvel on your hands.

New Chaos Rules will be in your hands soon. The second installment in the Vigilus Campaign goes up for pre-order today. We run down some of thew new units and combos. The second part of the show we talk about improving your tournament results.
Hey all,
Captain Morgan, Val Heffelfinger and Mike Brandt join me on the show this week. In the first part of the show we discuss the new units coming out for Chaos Space Marines with the release of their revised codex and the new Vigilus Abalze book.
Havocs get a big buff and several of the formations in this book will see tournament play. We’ve been drooling over the models too. Abaddon?! Whoa.
In the second part of the show we get a little out there to discuss player potential Ceilings and Floors. Specifically we frame out around how many games in a tournament you can reasonably expect to win performing at the top of bottom of your own potential.
We go one step past that and ask that anyone wishing to improve either of these levels objectively look at the various dials they can ‘fiddle with’ to improve.
Finishing Moves will be back next week!

This week we’re joined by the amazing David Annandale to kick off the Warhammer Horror series we’ll soon be finding on the bookshelves. In between learning about these awesome books we do a rundown of a few units in the ShadowSpear box set.
Hey guys,
In Part One we give a few announcements about the Crucible tournament and the Costal Assault tournaments in FL. Both of these will be a part of the Armageddon Series. Something we’re trying out here in the south to see how it helps get folks out to tournaments and as another opportunity to award some prizes. We also talk about the Space Marine Phobos detachments.
In the middle of the show we are joined again by the wonderful David Annandale. Please check out his works at the Black Library. He is such a joy to have on the show and we are especially grateful he made the time
After this we talk a little about the Chaos from Shadowspear. It’s subtle but there is a lot to offer here. I’m curious as to what everyone thinks.
In the next segment we get to sit down with Joe from Firmer Terra. He’s a sponsor of the show and such a pleasure to speak with. Please check him out if his company offers a solution for you. Links below!
Finishing moves is about fighting hobby fatigue again. Routines and Motivation only go so far. The rest is you!
