To us it seems like Inferno has been teased for way too long before we got to see the pages. It was well worth the wait.
Hey hey,
The Las Vegas Open went down over the weekend and our man Captain Morgan was on the scene as both a player on the 30k side and a judge on the 40k side for day one. We spend a few minutes getting his take on this massively awesome event.
Its been way too long since we’ve talked about 30k stuff on the show. With that in mind we get a deluge of news from the Horus Heresy Weekender. This episode is primarily about the Sisters of Silence, Custodes and Space Wolves. You can find some of the stuff up for pre-order here.
Forge World and Games Workshop created two drastically different looking Imperial Armies. This is going to really alter the look of the 30k landscape. To me, this is pretty dern cool since HH is a lot of recently Imperial and Imperial forces fighting each other. To someone just passing by the table it may look a little too generic. No MORE! We are impressed.
The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Frontline Gaming. They have a ton of good stuff coming out over the next few month and we are excited to be a part of helping them promote it and their events.
We ran out of time this week for the finishing moves but don’t worry! It will be back double next week but please check out our segment sponsor in the meantime. These guys are killing it in all aspects of our hobby.

If you are the slightest bit curious what goes into designing your favorite games or even have a few designs in mind, yourself, you are not going to miss this.
Folks,
This is a two part episode. For the first part I am joined by Benson Green from Mindworm Games where we discuss the basics of building a production pipeline. We cover a bit at the high level before getting a little into the weeds.
This links up to the episode we had him on a few weeks ago. Please check out our Articles section for quick reference to where that is. I apologize that this episode ran long so I didn’t include that bit as mentioned during the segment.
The second part of the show I am joined by a full on Professor of Game design from the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Atlanta. Chris Dodson and I got back a ways and it was really neat to catch up with him again to chat about these topics.
In this section we talk about the basics of Prototyping your design. He take on the subject is pretty fascinating and resonates in a very real way I think you guys are going to appreciate.
Please let us know what you think!

With every book and rule release we get to go back and take a look at everything that has come before with fresh eyes. If you guys have recently discovered any old gems, please let us know.
Hey Guys,
In this episode we take a look back at the IG. We don’t just look at how it fits into new formations or lists but we also talk specifically how some of the units we may have forgotten about stack up well against lots of units people are commonly taking today.
Its neat to break open an old codex with a fresh approach and I think that so many of us forget to do that. Even still.. seeing some of this stuff across the table again can be refreshing surprise.
The back half of the show I spend some time talking with our friends Horton Doughton and Mike Twitchell about an upcoming tournament they are running March 11th at Atomic Empire n North Carolina. They are trying something new with list restrictions/design and really trying to take a lot of subjective scoring out of the equation. Please check out their event at this Facebook link.

In line with last week’s hobby segment we talk about Masking – not just with tape. Sure.. tape works, but how do you apply it and what are some other options. We remove a little mystery from this topic and I hope you enjoy it.

We get specific with one of the Gathering Storm Relics we talked about last week and how it applies to the Imperial Soup. Its neat to be able to look back at older releases every time we get new stuff in our hands.
Yo,,
We talk a little about the new GW boxed game, Gangs of Commorragh, in the first part of this show. We have a full review of the game in our articles section too. Check it out here.
The we get into army design talking about a listener submitted Imperial Knight list using some new technology out of the Gathering Storm book.
As mentioned, its really nice being able to get more use out of the models you may already have and incorporate some of the new stuff at the same time. The back part of the show is a recording I did with Horton Doughton. We tackle a pretty interesting subject – effective casting dice for Psychic Powers. Even if you think you’ve got this part figured out, I think you’re still going to enjoy it.

The FM’s this week is all about using stencils. This, depending on your patience with them, can be infuriating! We give you some tips on how to make this task a little less daunting and get some impressive effects on your figures.

This episode is a bit of mixed bag but we do get down and dirty with a few Gathering Storm Relics from the two tables in there. You’re going to want to put a few of these in your Imperial army. Who doesn’t want another way to get Eternal Warrior in your list? I know I do.
Hey Guys,
The first part of the show Paul goes on and on about the latest incarnation of White Dwarf. For real.. If you don’t already subscribe or got out of the habit of picking up an issue from time to time at your local store it is time to start back. These magazines are jam packed with hobby tips and inspiration. I apologize in advance for the page flipping sounds!
We sort of have a round table bet on the total number of Tau Mantas that exist in the world. What do you think? Over or under 100?
Paul played in Warzone: Columbia over the weekend using Chaos Renegades. The stand out formation in the list ended up being the KDK Gorepack. We’ve talked about it before but here is another testimony. After the break we talk about a few of the Relics from the Gathering Storm book. When you factor in that the War Convocation can get a few of them for free they take on a new light. The Ecclesiarch get a few winners too that get opened up to any Imperial Detachment that takes Celestine.
The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Gamemat.eu. Their Industrial Terrain set is great and they offer a product that is pre-painted. This, combined with their mats, is a great way to get playing with professional looking game boards fast.
We explore the finer points of Woodland Camo. This is the ‘basic’ camo pattern that you saw on every IG tank when they were first released. This is what the ‘ig book’ suggested and that’s what we did! Anyway, we make this a lot less mysterious and if you’re looking for a way to get started with this I think you’ll like the segment.

We run down the Gathering Storm book today and give our initial impressions on the power characters – Belisarius Cawl and the dramatic return of St. Celestine. You don’t want to miss this!
Yo Everyone,
The Imperium gets to add a few incredibly powerful characters and formations to the soup this week. There is almost 100 pages of backstory and epic moments before you see your first rule in this book. I highly suggest you get it if you a collector of the stories and especially if you’re an Imperial player.
We cover all three of the new characters in this episode but the two stand outs are Cawl and Celestine. These guys are incredibly durable with no compromise to their offensive output. Cawl comes to the table with 5 wounds and Celestine weighs in with an impressive effective 9 (NINE) wounds at the start of the game.
Both of these characters have a way to renew their wound pool as the game goes on. Your opponent absolutely has to dedicate a tremendous amount of firepower to knock these guys out. They also fit right in to the brand new super formations in this book. The “Imperial Soup” gets real with all of the forces of the Imperium allowed to be combined in great formations. Dust off your Coteaz figures, he is back to being a stud.
In the middle of the show starting around 22 mins in, I get to talk to Benson Green from Mindworm Games about ‘how to get started in the gaming industry.’ This is a segment we are going to continue. Please let us know what topics you’d like us to cover.

This segment is all about the pox, buboes and sores that a lot of figures have. You can also use it for fresher wounds or scars for the less that nurgly figures.

We are still on Holiday Time at FTN but we are kicking off the New Year with another bonus episode on Chaos army lists.
Hey Everyone,
Horton Doughton is back with us but this time we’re joined by FTN regular Andrew Whittaker.
Today we go over one way to build a Tzeentch list featuring Magnus the Red. This guy is a freight train of destruction. He checks all the boxes – cool model, awesome rules and a bad ass background.
In the middle of the show I do a short segment with Skari from Skaredcast on youtube talking about the Barrie Bash in Ontario Canada. At the start of the second half we give a quick shout out to the Golden Sprue Cup. If you are able to attend these events please do! More quality events like this keeps our community strong.
We close the show out taking about a pretty versatile Iron Warriors list that really takes advantage of the Iron Warriors base Legion rules. The Iron Warriors really get flood the board with quality 2+ save units that can threaten things on all levels of the game.
Please let us know what you think!

Yo.. This may be the final episode of 2016 and we are going out with a competitive bang. Horton joins me again for us to get real analytical on a couple of Traitor Legion list concepts. We talk specifically about World s and Alpha Legion.
Hey Everyone,
Horton Doughton shares his take on a new World Eaters list based on the new detachments in the Traitor Legion book. I’ll post it below.
To really understand his choices Paul grills him a bit on ‘why’ he has built things out the way he does. It’s a nice exercise to go through with a top tournament player. Getting that perspective can help either solidify your list or help you re-think some of your choices. Our community is full of great folks to bounce these sorts of ideas off of.
I mention a couple of upcoming tournaments in the first few mintutes of the show. Horton and I will be at the SCARAB event in South Carolina. On the same weekend in Ohio, we also mention the Glass City Tournament. Please check out those links.
In the middle of the show I do a spot with Zach Becker from the London Grand Tournament. They have taken that event from a small club level endeavor to one of the largest events in the world for gaming. Horton and I come back in after this segment to talk about Alpha Legion chaos cultists.
Horton’s World Eater Face Beater:
World Eaters Butcherhorde:

We have some amazing players in and around my surrounding area and we thought it would be great to sit down with a few of them and really try to get inside their heads. It’s a pleasure to introduce you guys to these folks.
Yo,
Horton Doughton is one of the true greats in this hobby. He’s easily a contender for best sport even when he is tearing people’s heads off. He’s managed to consistently make assault based strategies work all through 6th and 7th edition 40k.
Horton is a member of the Borderlands Gaming group and trains with Mike Twitchell, who you may remember from the previous player spotlight we featured.
The game Borderlands is developed by Gearbox Software, co-founded by Randy Pitchford, and is an action role-playing first-person shooter video game. It is very popular amongst though wishing to become pro-gamers.
I mentioned that Horton is a terror on the tabletop and I meant it. We try to spend a little time getting into ‘how’ he approaches the game to get an idea of how he’s been so successful. Mr. Doughton is the number one ranked Khorne Daemonkin player in the world based on ITC rankings.
It was a sincere pleasure sitting down to speak with him. If you like this interview and want to hear more from Horton then you’re in luck! We have another bonus episode coming out later this week where he and Paul tear down a couple of stout Traitor Legion army lists.

The Traitor Legion book has no end of awesome combos. With no rolls necessary Chaos can now put several 2+ re-roll save Daemon Princes on the table. Watch out! These armies can threaten the top tier.
Hey guys,
We are wrapping up the year talking about Chaos in a way that I never thought we would again. The Traitor Legion book is very strong and can compete at the top tier with just a little work. We talk a lot about the Night Lords in this show.
The combo of rules offered with Traitor Legions is amazing. Like we state you can either go pretty easy on your commitment and pick up the Legion base rules or you can fully commit and get the ‘full frontal’ package that Chaos offers.
We also call out a few things about the Emperor’s Children and the Night Lords. This book would be impossible to cover in one show so please indulge us as we continue to dive into the various legions. We’ll be having a bonus episode on ‘crunchy’ list design soon too.

It’s all about hair today. Hair today, gone tomorrow.. I couldn’t resist. We talk about painting the wild an bushy type stuff like Space Wolves and Dwarves and also the molded cuts of the Blood Angels as well.
