St. Jude, you loved our Lord, help me to love Him more.

Jesus said to his disciples: "Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour when the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come."

Reflect, today, upon this intelligent and gifted disciple of our Lord.  Rejoice in the gift that Saint Luke gave us in the Gospel, but also commit to follow our Lord to the same degree as this disciple.  You, like Saint Luke, are being called to abandon all to the mission of the Gospel.  Do not hesitate to say “Yes.”

St. Luke, your Gospel tells us many things about the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through your writings about Mary, countless Christians have been able to grow in their love for Mary and for God throughout the centuries.

Please bring my petitions before Christ Whose Blessed Mother you wrote of!

Though you probably did not know Mary in person, you came to love her and revere her. The stories in your Gospel show that you knew how important devotion to Mary is.

Pray for me, that I may grow in my devotion to Mary each day. Pray that I may always turn to Mary as a Mother.

Reflect, today, upon how persistent you are in your prayer.  The prayer you must seek to live is primarily a prayer of total trust and abandonment to God.  You do not change God’s mind by begging Him.  Rather, your prayer must be so persistent that it opens you to the will of God and allows His grace to flow in accord with His perfect will.

St. Luke, you lived in a society that often viewed certain classes of people as being beneath others. In your Gospel, you took special care to show the importance of kindness and charity towards these people.

In your Gospel, you related Jesus praising the faith of the Gentiles. Your Gospel also tells the stories of the Good Samaritan and the thankful Samaritan leper.

Pray for me, that I may always be loving towards those who are often rejected. Help me to truly view all people with their inherent dignity as children of God.

Reflect, today, upon whether you are only inspired by the martyrs or if you actually imitate them.  If it’s the former, pray that their inspiring witness effects a powerful change in your life.
