  • The Grace of God in Christ
This sermon explores the nature of divine grace as presented in 1 Corinthians, arguing that Christians are realists who face the past, present, and future with hope because their guilt has been fully removed by Christ. The central message emphasizes that grace is unconditional and not dependent on human performance, meaning that even a flawed church like Corinth remains under God's favor because their salvation is secured by Christ's finished work rather than their own obedience. The text distinguishes between conviction, which leads to repentance, and condemnation, which has been satisfied on the cross, assuring believers that they are no longer guilty before God. By highlighting that faith and repentance are themselves gifts of grace, the sermon encourages believers to find assurance in Christ's substitutionary death rather than in their own fluctuating feelings or efforts. Ultimately, the message calls for a rest in the certainty that all sins, past, present, and future, have been paid for, allowing Christians to live with confidence and gratitude.

  • Right With Others
Last week we thought about the importance of being right with God. Yesterday morning, from Ephesians 4, we turned our attention to being right with each other. We considered the importance of unity within the body of Christ — loving one another, bearing with one another, forgiving one another, and guarding the unity that the Lord has given us. We also spoke to those who have been genuinely hurt by others, especially when the other person cannot, or will not, recognise the wrong they have done. We may not be able to change another person's heart, but we can keep our own heart right before God, refuse bitterness, and leave the matter safely in His hands. "Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." Ephesians 4:3

  • Judging, Bearing Godly Fruit, and Wise House Building
This sermon examines the teachings of Jesus in Luke 6, emphasizing that Christian conduct is defined by discernment, forgiveness, and the bearing of good fruit rather than mere condemnation. The message clarifies that while believers are called to avoid hypocritical judgment, they are still responsible for exercising wisdom and maintaining moral boundaries within the church and family. The central theological argument connects the parable of the house built on the rock to the necessity of a life founded on God's Word, arguing that spiritual stability and self-control are essential defenses against the deceptions of the world. The tone is instructional and pastoral, urging the congregation to examine their personal foundations and ensure their lives reflect the obedience and virtue required to withstand life's trials.

  • The Fullness in Christ
Christ is all, and having Christ we have all in him. Paul writes in Colossians to a church that is troubled by false teachers, and in Colossians 2 he counters the heretics' claim that they have the secret to more. We see the fullnes in Christ, the forgiveness that is in Christ, and the falseness of error over against the truth as it is in Christ.
