  • The Death that Inaugurates the Covenant
Hebrews 9:15–22 reminds us that Jesus Christ is the Mediator of a new covenant, and that this covenant was established through His death. Under the old covenant, sin required the shedding of blood because sin brings death and separates humanity from God. But the blood of animals could only point forward to something greater. Jesus became the perfect sacrifice, giving His own life so that those who believe in Him could receive forgiveness and the eternal inheritance promised by God. His death was not an accident or a defeat; it was the very event through which the new covenant was inaugurated. At the cross, Jesus paid the price that humanity could never pay, opening a new and living way for us to come into relationship with God. The message of this passage is therefore both sobering and hopeful: **the covenant we enjoy with God was sealed by the death of Christ.** His blood speaks of forgiveness, redemption, and a restored relationship with God. We do not approach God because of our goodness or religious works, but because Christ has already offered Himself on our behalf. His death calls us to appreciate the seriousness of sin, but even more, to appreciate the depth of God's grace. The cross reminds us that our salvation came at a great cost, and therefore we should live as people who belong to the One who died for us. The old covenant pointed toward Christ; Christ's death inaugurated the new covenant; and through Him, we receive forgiveness and the promise of eternal life.

  • The Treatment of God’s People "Understanding Ministry" - 1 Timothy 5
The sermon emphasizes the critical importance of maintaining unity and healthy relationships within the local church, drawing primarily from principles in 1 Timothy. It argues that spiritual maturity requires believers to actively resolve conflicts, practice accountability, and sustain long-term commitments despite interpersonal difficulties. Pastor Friesen warns against pride and victim mentality, urging members to address sin directly and forgive others as modeled by the Apostle Paul. True ministry is defined not by tasks but by how one treats fellow believers, requiring a consistent Christ-like attitude both inside and outside church services. Ultimately, faithfulness to the local body is presented as essential for effective service and eternal reward.

  • The Opportunity of Order and the Debilitation of Disorder
The sermon explores the critical relationship between divine order and spiritual discernment, contrasting the successful rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls in Nehemiah with the chaotic failure of Babel. It establishes that God is inherently orderly, as demonstrated in creation and His redemptive plan, and calls believers to align their lives with this structure to avoid confusion and gain clarity. The preacher argues that maturity and faithfulness, cultivated through trials and obedience, are essential for developing the discernment needed to resist deception. Ultimately, the drive for faithful service within the church stems not from obligation but from a profound appreciation of God's forgiveness, which rightly orders human affections toward selfless love and labor for His kingdom.

  • The Power of His Name
The sermon examines Acts 3:13-16 to highlight the supreme power and significance of the name of Jesus Christ. It identifies three key titles for Jesus—the Son of God, the Holy One and Just, and the Prince of Life—and contrasts these with humanity's threefold rejection of Him through delivery, denial, and execution. The preacher emphasizes that God's approval is demonstrated by glorifying His Son and raising Him from the dead, validating Jesus' sacrificial work. Faith in this powerful name, rather than human merit or miracles, brings spiritual life, forgiveness of sins, and reconciliation with God. • The Light and Bread
The sermon explores the spiritual significance of the lampstand and the showbread within the Old Testament tabernacle, interpreting them as profound symbols of Christ. The light represents Jesus as the source of life and truth who illuminates the darkness of sin, while the bread signifies God's faithful provision and the necessity of spiritual nourishment through His Word. The preacher emphasises that believers must continually feed on Scripture to maintain their spiritual vitality and reflect God's glory to the world. The message concludes with an invitation to examine one's heart, seek forgiveness, and partake in the Lord's Supper with a renewed appetite for His presence.

  • BCF 18 – The Incarnation of Jesus Christ, our Lord
The sermon contrasts the futile cycle of reincarnation with the redemptive power of Christ's incarnation, emphasizing that God humbled Himself to become man. By examining Matthew's genealogy, the sermon highlights how Jesus fulfills ancient covenant promises while interrupting the lineage of sin through His virgin birth. This unique origin establishes Him as the true Son of David and Abraham, offering salvation not through human merit but through divine grace. Rev. Oosthuizen further illustrates that this theological truth has practical implications, as the incarnate Christ sympathizes with the ordinary struggles and weaknesses of daily life. Ultimately, the sermon calls listeners to abandon self-reliance and place their faith in Jesus, who dwells near them to provide strength and forgiveness.

  • Justified By Faith
The sermon expounds on Romans 5:6-8, emphasizing that Christ died for the ungodly while they were still sinners, demonstrating God's unconditional love. It contrasts human willingness to die for the righteous with God's initiative to save those who are spiritually helpless and hostile toward Him. The text highlights that salvation is entirely a work of grace, not based on human merit or improvement, but on Christ's substitutionary atonement which absorbs God's wrath. Believers are called to respond with patience, humility, and sacrificial love toward others, mirroring the compassion they have received. Ultimately, the message invites sinners to look to the cross for forgiveness and peace with God, rather than relying on their own works.
