Forgiveness is a sign of nobility in the Christian life. It's unique to Christianity. “Forgive as Christ forgave” (Eph 4:32). Forgiveness forgets. The two must go together. Justice belongs to God. We are never to retaliate. “For with what measure you measure, it will be measured back to you again” (Matt 7:2). Forgiveness requires the use of the problem-solving devices of impersonal love and grace orientation. “If someone says I love God and hates his brother he is a liar” (1 John 4:20). Let go of hypersensitivity. Forgiveness requires humility.
