God instructs us to be learners because learning is how you grow to spiritual maturity. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed accurately handling the Word of Truth” (2 Tim 2:15). If you’re going to live God’s excellent plan for your life, you must learn His Word from a well-qualified pastor while filled with Holy Spirit. Staying filled with the Holy Spirit is essential to learning spiritual matters. Learning and obeying God’s mandates will give you a wonderful life. “My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandant; for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you” (Prov 3:1-2). Respect Scripture. The only way you’ll get the Word of God in your soul is to learn it.

Your mission is to communicate God’s justice, righteousness, and unfailing love to those who haven’t believed. This is what God expects of you. “How will they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent?” (Rom 10:14-15). If someone wants to become a Christian, somebody must tell them how to do it. This is your mission. But God won’t send you unless you are prepared. You can’t represent God if you don’t understand God.

No Christian has a right to intrude on the privacy of another believer. A loss of privacy is a loss of freedom. As a believer, you have the right to be left alone. Others shouldn’t intrude into your life. And you shouldn’t intrude into theirs. Jesus Christ set the example when He dealt with His disciples in private. “He was explaining everything to His disciples in private” (Mark 4:34). God is the only One who needs to know the details. “For the ways of a man are before the eyes of the Lord and He watches all his paths” (Prov 5:21).

Faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior guarantees you have a permanent relationship with God. You are in the “relationship circle” forever. That’s eternal security. “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus” (Gal 3:26). Once we are in God’s royal family, He is free to bless us in time and eternity. Fellowship with God depends on having no unconfessed sin in your life. Sin breaks fellowship with God, and you go out of the “fellowship circle.” Confessing your sin, using 1 John 1:9, is how you get back into fellowship. “If we say we have fellowship with Him and walk in the darkness [unconfessed sin], we lie and do not practice the truth” (1 John 1:6). Staying in the “fellowship circle,” being filled with the Holy Spirit, is a volitional decision. The Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to light your path. “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Ps 119:105).

Using God’s problem-solving devices gives you the tools for overcoming fear. With a FLOT Line in your soul, you can expect a life of divine advantage over the evils of the cosmic system. “I fear no evil, for You are with me” (Ps 23:4). Fear is a sin. Fear is an emotion out of control and a distraction to your spiritual life. There is a better way to live, and it’s called the Christian life. It is a life without fear. Overcome fear by seeking God’s wisdom and using His divine resources. “I sought the Lord, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Ps 34:4).

You are an ambassador for the Lord Jesus Christ in the devil’s world. You are in full-time Christian service as a member of God’s royal family. God gives you the power and the divine provisions to handle the appointment. “We are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you, on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” (2 Cor 5:20). The Lord promises He will take care of you. It’s time you get with it and fulfill your responsibilities as an ambassador for Jesus Christ. Bring honor to Him as you walk in this world. Present the gospel to those who are lost.

You will never reach spiritual maturity without exercising your soul daily. Spiritual exercise glorifies God. “Bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds the promise for the present life and also for the life to come” (1 Tim 4:8). Godliness is living your life according to God’s plan. Peak spiritual performance requires self-discipline to study and apply God’s Word consistently. This develops spiritual endurance, which has a lasting impact. “Seeing that His divine power has granted us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who has called us by His own glory and excellence” (2 Pet 1:3).

You are not saved by repenting your sins. Sin is not an issue in salvation because your sins were paid for by Christ’s finished work on the cross. You are saved by faith alone in Christ alone. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Eph 2:8–9). To repent means to change your mind about the identity of Jesus Christ. “I tell you, unless you repent, you will likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say I am?” Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God’” (Matt 16:13-16). Peter changed his thinking (repented) and believed Jesus was the anointed Son of God.

You will encounter users and abusers in life, so you need to beware and be prepared. They will try to distract you from your spiritual life by drawing you into their web of bitterness and human viewpoint thinking. Use impersonal love to pass this people test. “There is no fear in love; perfect love casts out fear … We love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:18-21). Pray for them. Let God handle the users and abusers. “Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord” (Rom 12:19). Applying Scripture to circumstances in life will give you confidence and spiritual self-esteem. “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).
