Former GM Jun Reina Arrested
Former CapRadio General Manager Jun Reina has been arrested and criminally charged on felony counts of embezzlement, grand theft and forgery in connection with financial mismanagement at the public media station. A team of CapRadio journalists have been reporting on our employer independently since the beginning, when a 2023 audit from the California State University Chancellor’s Office uncovered years of financial mismanagement at the public media station. CapRadio Producer Sarit Laschinsky joins us with the latest, as well as what comes next.

Following NPR’s protocol for reporting on itself, no CapRadio corporate official or news executive reviewed this story before it was posted or broadcast.

You can read our independent ongoing coverage of financial issues at Capital Public Radio here.

California Dream for All Program
It can be hard to buy a house in California. The median home value in the Golden State crossed $800,000 last year, which is far beyond the median household income. A state-run lottery system is hoping to help. Eric Johnson is with the California Housing Finance Agency and he joined Insight to explain how the California Dream for All program works. Applications for the program, which would provide down payment assistance to first-time homebuyers, opens Feb. 24 and closes March 16.

Sac Comic Book Ban
For more than 75 years, it’s been a crime in the City of Sacramento to provide comic books to kids that depict any kind of illegal activity. This week, the city council will take the final step in deleting the 1949 ordinance. The effort to repeal the comic book ban was led by Sacramento Cartoonist Eben Burgoon. He joined us to explain why he felt the law should be changed.

American Patchwork Quartet
The definition of American Roots music can refer to everything from blues and gospel to country, bluegrass, and folk. Highlighting that wide range of diversity is the mission statement of the band known as the American Patchwork Quartet. They are performing Thur., Feb. 5 at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley. The group is led by two-time Grammy-winning guitarist and vocalist Clay Ross and he joined us to preview the band’s upcoming tour.
