What would our lives look like if we chose to take on each moment with Jesus at the center? Not just the teachings of Jesus. Not just the idea of Jesus. Not some existential sense of Jesus. But the person, Jesus.

Christmas at Fort City #5: In John's Gospel, he refers to himself "as the one that Jesus loved." Seems a bit arrogant at first glance. But maybe John's trust teaches us how a realization of Jesus's love can change our whole identity.

What happens when light enters the darkness? Here in Fort McMurray, we know the answer better than most. We’ve got some of the coldest and darkest days during Christmas time, but up against the darkness, our lights shine brightly. Christmas lights of joy light up our dark streets from 4pm to 9am. Christmas trees with white lights in our living rooms remind us that hope isn’t far away. Our hands might be cold, but our hearts are warm and full of a loving light that illuminates the way for others.

Our joy, hope, and love are gifts from a God who loves us, who chose to bring his light into a dark world.

Christmas at Fort City #4: We get true joy from our God. Jesus wants to fill your life with joy, and as he fills you with his joy it will be strength for you. You can have joy instead of bitterness, resentment, and anger.
