We’re joined by Will and Maureen from the RMWB to discuss the Reach 6 flood mitigation project. Reach 6 is the area that goes from Riedel St. up to Longboat Landing in the downtown area along the Clearwater River. The Municipality is still seeking public input on what residents do and don’t like about the presented options. Have your say before the PERMANENT project is in place.

Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce’s Award Celebration is quickly approaching with a night of awards, food, and fun. Dianna de Sousa, Executive Director of the Chamber tells us about what people can expect from the night as well as how the recent trade show went. Nearly 1,300 people each year are provided health and wellness support from Some Other Solutions (SOS) in Fort McMurray and today we find how. Sherri and Lindsey with SOS join us to talk about the counseling services, child and youth programs, and other resources that are offered for anyone needing a little extra help with grief and trauma. Councillor Stu Wigle joins us today to discuss “The Global Leadership Summit” coming to Fort McMurray on Oct. 20,21. The event will be simulcasted around the world so people can hear from speakers such as filmmaker Ron Howard in ways that they can grow their leadership. Today we learn what Truth and Reconciliation can mean to a person, and we take the time to listen and understand. Melina Power and Feather Bourque-Jenner discuss the devastating effect residential schools had on their families and what emotions they’ve felt now that the world is beginning to listen and understand. Be sure to take time on Friday, Sept. 30, and engage in conversations about the history and legacy of the residential school system.

So much is happening at Heritage Village that they will even be transforming into a Haunted Village! Courtney Stock, Program Director with the Heritage Society informs us of everything happening at Heritage Village over the next few months including something special coming in Christmas. She even shares details about where someone could get extra tickets for the Haunted Village event on Oct. 29.

The annual Fort McMurray Marathon was a resounding success with over 650 participants and more than $74,000 raised for local charities. Angela Barone with the RRCWB joins us to chat about Sunday’s race, the excitement of that day, and plans for the next marathon. The 2nd annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is right around the corner, so Janine and Lauren join us to discuss how you can take part in Fort McMurray. Anyone wanting to take part that day, the gathering will begin outside Jubilee Plaza on Franklin Avenue at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 30.
