Belief and Unbelief are often pitted against one another. We’re inundated with thoughts, comments, sermons, and blog posts that tell of the evils of unbelief. We try to avoid unbelief at all costs.

But what if unbelief wasn’t an enemy to belief.

What if unbelief was actually an acknowledged part of the belief process. How differently would our prayers look if we embraced our unbelief and even brought it to Jesus to take care of?

In Mark 9:14-29 we read of a desperate father who needed a miracle from Jesus. His faith may have been looked down on by modern Christians, but he got exactly what he needed from Jesus. What was his secret?

He embraced his unbelief and he brought it to Jesus!

How do you handle the “good times?”

How do you handle the “bad times?”

We all tend to hold onto the good times and try to avoid the bad times altogether. It’s human nature to avoid pain and suffering and to embrace joy and comfort.

In Mark 9:1-13 we read of Jesus showing his glory to 3 of his disciples on top of a mountain. This is commonly referred to as The Transfiguration. It was a powerful moment where the disciples got a preview of the Glory that is to come.

But Jesus didn’t stay on top of the mountain. He came back down and ultimately headed to The Cross. Today as we look at Mark 9:1-13 we’re going to see how important it is to cling to the right things as we look toward the Ultimate glory of eternity with Christ.

A constant theme that subtly runs throughout the pages of the Gospel of Mark is the inability of people to truly see who Jesus really is. As a matter of fact his very disciples are the ones who are portrayed as missing the significance of Jesus' miracles and teachings most often. They show us that proximity doesn't equal perception. They also show us that God can still use us even if we don't fully "get it."

In today's message we look at Mark 8:1-21 and ask ourselves this key question: Do I really get it?

When was the last time you were offended? I mean truly offended? Often times we refuse to look beyond places where we've been offended and as a result we can easily miss what God is doing in the midst of the season.

How satisfied are you in life?

In our search for true satisfaction we often come up short. We find that nothing fully satisfies our ultimate soul's hunger.

In Mark 6:30-44 we see Jesus feeding thousands of people with a miracle. This miracle of provision gives us a glimpse into the Deity of Christ. It also shows us the sufficiency of Jesus. We are told that Jesus multiplies some fish and loaves of bread and that in the end everyone ate and was satisfied. We learn that Jesus and only Jesus can truly satisfy the longing in our lives.
