When Betty retired in 2016, she kept herself busy by mentoring children and teenagers who expressed an interest in riding and caring for horses themselves. Some of her protégés became competitive riders.

A survivor of childhood sexual assault herself, Jeanette wants women to feel comfortable talking about what happened to them. It does not need to be a secret and they do not have to live with shame and guilt.

“You have a choice. You can stay in the same house and golf at the same course every week, or you can travel and see the entire country. You can watch television or surf the internet all day, or go learn skills you have always wanted to learn," said Kathy. "Retirement is an opportunity to change directions and find something you have a passion for and fall in love with it.”

The real turning point for Jeff was accepting the fact he didn't have to be perfect, nor did his skills have to perfect in order for him to bring value to others.

Janine started writing a blog that offered tips just for women. It became so popular that she started writing for the RV Industry Association. Soon, she became the Martha Stewart of the camping world.

"Don't put yourself in a box and say because I'm a carpenter, I am always going to be a carpenter because there is nothing else out there. Maybe it's a hobby or a job opportunity," Al explained. "But the two most enjoyable things I've done in my life are things I started after turning 50."

In the process of researching a health scare, Michele discovered a lot of helpful information about America’s food supply, toxins in the environment and how they work to impact everyone’s health.

When bad things happen, we have a choice on how to respond. We can sulk, withdraw into our little comfort zones and blame God and everyone else for our predicament. Or we can pivot and realize that as long as we’re still breathing, there is a purpose for our lives.

The need for purpose is obvious and that’s why Greg started Forward From 50 -- to help men and women over the age of 50 to live more purposeful lives by pursuing things they are truly passionate about.
