  • The Climate Report #371 | AI & Climate Change | 4-10-23
AI serves the purpose of scouring the Internet and telling you what it finds. It's instructive to find a good summary of what the "Internet" is saying about climate change.
This is an irreverent look at what the "experts" are saying about climate change. Yes, climate change is real. But the root causes are misunderstood, even by the so-called experts. We need to understand the root causes so we can actually solve the problems.
For example, droughts, floods and wildfires are not caused PRIMARILY by climate change. These problems have causes and solutions, quite apart from greenhouse gases.
We face serious problems. We need serious problem solvers. We will solve these problems only if we first identify the true causes and address the root causes.
This episode critiques a video whose script is written by AI. AI is really confused because journalists, and many scientists, are really confused. And the real story is being buried.
If you want to solve climate change, don't listen to the so-called experts, until you listen to this episode.

To mark our 6th Anniversary Pledge Drive and encourage you to donate today at https://secure.givelively.org/donate/wfmp-low-power-radio/forward-radio-s-6th-anniversary-pledge-drive, we bring you a special Access Hour featuring a community conversation about Youth Climate Activism in Kentucky! The conversation was organized by the Kentucky Student Environmental Coalition on February 20th and was facilitated by Jeri Katherine Howell who researched why young people in Kentucky get involved in climate activism from 2020-2022 as a graduate student pursuing a Master’s of Science in Community and Leadership Development at the University of Kentucky (https://uknowledge.uky.edu/cld_etds/60/).
Jeri is a singer-songwriter, educator, activist, and sustainable community development practitioner. She engages people of all ages in creative learning experiences that uplift our stories, embody our interconnectedness with more-than-human nature, and build community. She employs this work as the Assistant Director at Josephine Sculpture Park and as a musician, teaching artist, and consultant. Jeri is an adjudicated member of the Kentucky Arts Council and Partners for Rural Impact Teaching Artist Rosters and a certified environmental educator and Kentucky Community Scholar. Her artistic, activist, and academic achievements have been recognized by the Kentucky Arts Council, U.S. Department of State Fulbright program, and Kentucky Foundation for Women. This is a phenomenal resource for any Kentucky activist looking to engage with youth on climate issues. Jeri's thesis explores personal stories, what has worked well, and overall set backs in these spaces.
In this context, “youth climate activism” involves anyone who identifies as “young” or “youth” and takes action to address climate change. The research focused on participants ages 18-24 years old.

Get mindful with us on this week’s Sustainability Now! LIVE for the Pledge Drive, your host, Justin Mog, welcomes back to the studio Kyle Kramer, Executive Director of the Passionist Earth & Spirit Center (http://earthandspiritcenter.org) and host of the Earth & Spirit podcast on NPR (https://www.npr.org/podcasts/1004504654/earth-and-spirit).
We talk about what’s new at the Earth & Spirit Center and the trainings, retreats, and summer camps coming up this year. We also ask Kyle to share about some of the incredible guests he has had on his podcast recently, what he’s learned from them, and who is coming up on the podcast soon.
Don’t miss our conversation about some of the books he’s read, how he makes time for that and what remarkable things he’s read lately! Then we turn to stories of god speaking to us through natural phenomenon and the practices of asceticism (or “ludditism”) Kyle employs. We end with the magic sustainability wand question - if you could change one thing about modern life as we know it, what would it be?
