  • The Climate Report #347 | The Counterrevolution of 1776 | 10-3-22
This week on The Climate Report I'm joined by my friends and fellow programmers, Michael Tee and Vincent Gonzalez. We will talk about Gerald Horne's book, the Counterrevolution of 1776, which presents a different, and we believe a much more accurate picture of what really happened in 1776.
Why are we talking about history on a show dedicated to climate? Because we must understand our true history and the true nature of our political and corporate institutions in order to solve big problems like climate change, which we will never solve unless we radically rethink what we've been taught.

  • Sustainability Now! | Ilana Solomon | Trade Justice Education Fund | October 3, 2022
This week’s show goes global as your host, Justin Mog, is joined by Ilana Solomon with the Trade Justice Education Fund (http//TradeJusticeEdFund.org). You won’t want to miss this insightful conversation about how our current global trade system undermines climate action, and how the fossil fuel industry is increasingly using of free trade agreements to challenge climate action. In July 2021, the company TC Energy launched a suit against the United States under NAFTA challenging the Biden administration’s decision to stop the Keystone XL pipeline. They’re demanding $15 billion in compensation for their “lost expectation of future profits.” This is just one of dozens of similar trade suits challenging and undermining climate policies around the world.
What can we do about it? The Trade Justice Education Fund has a proposal for a Climate Peace Clause to stop governments from using trade rules to challenge climate policies. You can sign up to get updates and take action at http://TradeJusticeEdFund.org

  • Perks S. 7 Ep. 149 | Erin Keane | Manhattan, Myths, and Mom | 9-28-22
This week’s show gave us an opportunity to speak to Erin Keane, who is the editor in chief of Salon.com but also a well-known Louisville writer who has recently published a book that defies classification a bit—it is a family memoir, but it is also an examination of history and culture.
Erin’s book, Runaway: Notes on the Myths That Made Me, covers a lot of ground. While it is based on her mother’s runaway experience in her early teens in the 1970s, it is also about how her parents met and married when Erin’s now deceased father was in his 30s and her mother was 15. Erin explores the myths she held about her father, how they shaped her life, and how certain myths shape all of our lives. The LA Times listed Runaway as one of its 30 most anticipated books of fall.
