To celebrate this 100th edition of Sustainability Now!, your host, Justin Mog, parks his bike for a chat about sustainable transportation and budget solutions for our city with representatives from Forward Radio’s community partner, Bicycling For Louisville. We’re thrilled to have back on the program our very first guest, Chris Glasser, executive director of B4L, along with two members of the Advocacy Team, Jackie Cobb and Wes Cobb.

We discuss the Metro Louisville budget crisis and its impact on complete streets projects, from those already partially completed, such as the Winter-Barret-Castlewood improvements, to those in the works such as the Bardstown Road Redesign Project. We also discuss the insanity of two projects being proposed by KYTC:

1. Widening I-71 from 4 to 6 lanes. (A $1.7M federally-funded study is beginning and last year, state lawmakers approved $30M in construction funds for widening just 5 miles of I-71 from the Gene Snyder to Ky. 329 in Crestwood.); and

2. Creating "another Gene Snyder" – a 3rd bypass through rural exurbs from I-65 at Shephersville in Bullit Co. to I-71 in Oldham or Henry Co. (The Kentucky legislature approved $1.9M for the study in last year’s highway plan.)

We end with a quick word about the fight to reopen the K&I bridge between Portland Wharf and New Albany, IN to bikes and pedestrians, and about the expansion of bikeshare options in Louisville.
