When the Spirit of God and the Word of God create the people of God, astounding things happen.

Acts is an historical account. But is it more? What if Acts happened again in our own day? What if Acts sets the pace, gives us our marching orders? What would Belfast look like then?

By the end of the Book of Acts, there are no signs of the Advance of the Gospel slowing down. So we pray, 'More God! Do it again!'

Having an encounter with Jesus is like a sheet of polar ice coming into contact with the hull of an icebreaker ship - people respond to him in diverse and life-changing ways.

We see that in this part of John's gospel - two people reacting to the same Jesus in vastly different ways.

Mary choses a costly and extravagant way to demonstrate her devotion to Jesus.

Judas appears to be pious but his religion is simply a cover for a heart that is far from Jesus.

The encounter leads us to three positions we can adopt in response to Jesus:

a person who knows they need resurrection life from him

a religious moral person who is comfortable with a religion that works for their own ends

a follower of Jesus who wants more

Following the amazing scenes on the Day of Pentecost, we see that the vast number of people who turned their lives to Christ, naturally formed a beautiful, life-giving community.

In this message, Four Marks of a Gospel-Centred, Spirit-Empowered Community on Mission, any subsequent community built on the good news about Jesus and the gift of the Holy Spirit will naturally demonstrate these characteristics:

Devoted

Awe-inspiring

Benevolent

Growing

The Book of Acts tracks the continuing work of Jesus through his Apostles and the first generation of believers.

In this message, we see how Jesus continues to build his kingdom through his message, his Spirit and his people.

This call continues today - each generation to reach its Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). At Foundation Church, we take our place in this grand mission of Jesus in our own day.
