If you’re looking for a God who is all puppy dogs and butterflies, then you aren’t looking for the God of the Bible. God’s justice can seem harsh, but it reveals His character in a new way--and helps us understand God as He truly is.

The gods of ancient cultures were unreliable and self-centered. But the God revealed in the Bible is consistent and reliable. The faithfulness of God is the key to understanding why we can trust God. He can be trusted, because He holds true to His promises.

The fundamental truth that the Bible wants us to understand about God is that he is entirely Other from humans and the rest of creation. God’s otherness--or holiness--establishes His character and shows us what He wants for our lives.

Christianity makes a strange claim about the essence of God--He is One, but He is also Three. On paper, the equation doesn’t make sense. But when we begin to grasp this truth, we will understand His character and our own design at a deeper level.
