The Church in Pergamum was commended for holding tightly to the name of Jesus, but some within the church had compromised in a very destructive way. They stood strong against the outside persecution, but they fell victim to the enemy within themselves. The temptation to compromise our values is alive and well today and Jesus is coming back soon for an uncompromising church.

The Pharisees brought a woman caught in the act of adultery before Jesus and the crowed to be judged. In epic fashion, Jesus totally turns the tables on them and reminds them of something you and I must never forget — that we, too, have sinned. The way we interact with people trapped and sin will either pull them closer or push them further away from Jesus. The church in Ephesus is recognized for working hard, enduring difficulties, and standing for truth in dark times. But Jesus reminds them that without love, those things are incomplete. In a culture that is so anti-Christian it can be difficult to continue in the work of ministry while maintaining our love for God and each other.
