Four Layered Takes

Here are our rapid reactions to Lovecraft Country ep. 8 before our "deep-dive" podcast later in the week!

Ji-ha is "Lovecraft Country's" 'Condola ("Insecure"); Mel's happy ending gives her memory lapse; Mel also doesn't know what "meta" means, but she's sure this is it; shout out to actress Jada Harris, aka "Dee" for a brilliant performance.

In this week’s second episode, we do our deep dive into episode 7, "I Am."

Our takes... we’re still 'flabbergasted' by this episode; Marcus gives ode to the women in his life; Montrose could’ve gotten that Al Green special; Mel is scarred by old black men who count fast; a word on women, self-discovery, and motherhood.

This one was definitely a mixed bag for us lol. Our "takes"... this was Marcus' favorite episode so far; the storylines are all coming together; Mimi hears Jill Scott during the Montrose scene; plus somebody in the Josephine Baker crew should’ve had some questions.

In this week’s second episode, we do our deep dive into episode 6, "Meet Me In Daegu."

Our takes... American Imperialism is always creating monsters; “Don’t ‘swipe-left’ me in my face" should be on a t-shirt; Marcus poses an interesting hypothetical question about 9 tails; Ji-ah may be the “wild card” in this story; we also shout out the Emmy winners of the shows we reviewed.

In this week’s second episode, we do our deep dive into episode 5 of "Lovecraft Country."

Our takes... for a first-timer, Leti is a natural equestrian; we give some GOOD clarity on the Winthrop/Epstein timeline and relationship for anyone confused; Ruby clearly has Jamaican/Caribbean blood cause, work ethic; we give our first Sex-Ed class; the definition of red-bottoms has changed forever.

Ruby is having her "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" moment. Mel claims if she were in Ruby’s shoes she’d just go around breaking laws. And, MiMi relays how timely of an episode this was.

In this week’s second episode, we do our deep dive into episode 4 of "Lovecraft Country".

Our takes... men make stuff difficult; Christina is having a 'Michael Jackson experience'; where’s Killmonger when you need him; Montrose gives horrible relationship advice; MiMi feels if she had Christina/William's ability she would’ve lived her best Blanche Devereaux life.

In this week’s second episode, we do our deep dive into episode 3 of "Lovecraft Country". We also began with an emotional few minutes dedicated to Mr. Chadwick Boseman.

Our takes... we examine the different themes expressed in the episode; the show already feels like it's 5 seasons in; MiMi would’ve been so scared during exorcism she would’ve invoked the member names of defunct R&B groups; Tick needs a Republican frame of mind.
