FOUR THE RECORD PODCAST Episode 14: “J.B. & em Drink Too Much”
Episode 14! This episode is (rightfully) titled, “J.R. & em Drink Too Much!”. A quote from a 90’s video I’m sure some of you caught. Let’s just say are pregame session was heavy for this one and its a decent amount of liquor influenced nuances sprinkled throughout this episode! Once we get past that, we get into a few discussions around current DJ culture.
Firstly, we touch on DJs who don’t take the proper time to learn basic sound engineering and troubleshooting before taking gigs. With controllers becoming more and more common in the industry, DJs are becoming more reliant on the technology to be fail-safe. The problem is, what happens when something goes wrong and you as the DJ need to troubleshoot? Even on turntables where troubleshooting options are fairly limited, are you prepared to figure it out on the fly?
Moving on from the troubleshooting music side of things we get into general troubles the DJs face. One example being bathroom breaks! Non-DJs never realize, but more often than not we are the only DJ in the venue at a given time. Because of this bathroom breaks (especially coupled with drinking) can be a tricky concept to tackle. We give our take on that.
Then finally, we start to talk about hospitality (or the lack thereof) within the club culture. Doorman not letting you in for wearing the same thing you just saw someone else get it in with? Don’t worry we’ve experienced it as well.
