Episode 10: What a milestone to round off the first season of the Fourth Floor Podcast. We began this week by discussing new music that had been released from the likes of Amine, Drake, Skepta, Shoreline Mafia and Octavian. We also talked on new shows that we have been watching, namely the new Netflix Most Wanted series and one particular episode on Samantha Lewthwaite, one of the world’s most infamous terror suspects.
After our first break we discussed last week's A-level results based on algorithms that saw a general unfair disparity between private and state school grades (note, the government u-turn happened after the time of recording). We then explored wider questions of whether private schools should exist? To what extent do they consolidate class disparity and prevent social mobility? And whether people can be blamed for sending their children to private school?
Following on, we criticised the policy that will see an end of free under-18 travel, and the detrimental impact that this may have on kids and their families. We finished the section with our thoughts about the mainstream news’ dystopian and dehumanising coverage of migrants at sea.
Our final section discussed European football: Barcelona losing 8-2, Man City and Man Utd out of Europe, Bayern to win the champions league? Rb Leipzig to cause an upset. We finished on potential transfers to be done during the next couple of months.
