Acknowledging Christ before men, both as Savior and Lord, is an important duty of believers. This sermon examines both what that looks in practice as well as the challenges and temptations for compromise that we face in our modern day.

The attitude of the crowd during the triumphal entry versus the demeanor of Jesus could not be more stark. The crowd is characterized by celebration and praise, while Jesus is seen sobbing as he catches a glimpse of Jerusalem. The multitude are anticipating that King Jesus will overthrow the Romans, and establish the throne of David, but Jesus knows that he will die on the cross, as the vast majority of his own people will call for his execution. Instead of salvation coming to the Jews, Jesus knows that Jerusalem, in the not too distant future -i. e. AD 70-, will be surrounded by its enemies, and that the temple will be leveled, so that not one stone will be left upon another, because they did not recognize the day of their visitation. This leaves us with the question- do we recognize that God has visited his people in the person of Christ-

Martin Luther once said, -I have two days on my calendar- this day and that Day.- By which he meant that he strives every day in light of that day in which he will appear before the judgment seat of Christ.--That is a great summary of what this parable of the 10 minas is all about- being faithful stewards of all that God has entrusted to our care, knowing a day of accountability is coming, and we will be rewarded based on our faithfulness.
