Brothers and sisters, what do you think is the hardest teaching of Jesus? The toughest commandant he tells us to follow? For many of us, including myself, it might just be what we heard in today’s Gospel. This is toward the end of Christ’s 'Sermon on the Plain', his teaching on forgiveness and love of enemies.
Listen again to the first sentence our Lord tells us: “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.”
That last one really struck me. Jesus wants us to "pray for those who abuse you." My friends, this commandment from our Lord has been weighing on me this week because of what has been happening in our Church the past 8 months, and especially in the new developments in the just the past 2 weeks.
