Almsgiving is necessary for eternal life. People who give generously become like God—who gave everything to us! Almsgiving leads to a better prayer life by detaching us from the material things which keep us from prayer. Almsgiving atones for our sins—and thus appeases God’s wrath. And it leads to an increase of FAITH—one of the theological virtues required for eternal life.

St. Louis de Montfort wrote so beautifully of the Consecration to Jesus through Mary. In his marvelous treatise, True Devotion, he said this:

“As all perfection consists in our being conformed, united and consecrated to Jesus it naturally follows that the most perfect of all devotions is that which conforms, unites and consecrates us most completely to Jesus. Now of all God’s creatures Mary is the most conformed to Jesus. If therefore follows that, of all devotions, devotion to her makes for the most effective consecration and conformity to Him. The more one is consecrated to Mary, the more one is consecrated to Jesus.” (#120).
