I was set free from the care center while the Church commemorates Moses, that great liberator, and delivered back to the island monastery over the waters. Now my recovery continues in my community of monks, and I ask for your prayers.

When we Orthodox Christians greet each other at the Divine Liturgy, and the other services of the Church, it is critical that we remember that we are family. We must lift each other up in prayer. We must love one another. We must give thanks that we are part of the Body of Christ. To do anything else is to betray our faith. Orthodoxy is not just simply a club we belong to; Orthodoxy is our life, and if we don't treat it as such, we are failing in our faith, and we are failing our brothers and sisters.

Our God Who loves us, and is long-suffering, and forgives us our sins against Him, is something that we want to share as Christians with others. Yet, often times we don't realize that the best and most simple way of sharing the message is by channeling God's love and mercy to others by how we respond to the way they treat us negatively. If we have friends, or relatives, or coworkers that treat us poorly, we must demonstrate God's love by being quick to forgive, and loving them. That is the message of the Gospel.

I'm asking for your prayers through the weekend so that old Grandpa Tryphon can leave the care center and return to the monastery for continued recovery.

“The holy fathers knew very well what they meant by saying that the eyes of our soul can be opened. That is why we should read both the patristic texts and the Scriptures. Do you think that you don’t have time to do it? Try and read even for a few minutes every day. The purification and enlightenment you will gain by reading the Holy Scriptures will remain with you day and night.”

“We do not need great knowledge to be devout. If we concentrate and ponder on the few things we know, our heart will be spiritually embroidered. One may be profoundly affected by a single hymn, while another may feel nothing, even though he may know all the hymns by heart, as he has not entered into the spiritual reality. So, read the Fathers, even one or two lines a day. They are very strengthening vitamins for the soul."

Today we celebrate The Beheading of the Holy Glorious Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord, John. This account of the events, and its bloody aftermath for those involved, is recorded in the Prologue of Orchrid and narrated by Monk Paisios.
