Frankenstein's RPG episodes

  • Series 2 Episode 1 - the start of something beautiful? Well we discuss Science Fiction which is a start!

In this episode - the first of Series 2 - the panel, composed of the following people and recorded at a get together somewhere in Wales: Neil, Sam, Jim, Jeremy, Steve, Carl, Martin and me (Dave) try to tackle the big questions: what Role Playing Game system best handles the setting of Space and Science Fiction and also which role playing games system has the kind of character creation mechanics we most want to emulate in the Frankenstein's Sci-Fi RPG?

Well it was a mixed episode and proof positive that the twin temptations of drink and a convivial atmosphere can lead to some odd outcomes! Hope you enjoyed the episode and that it is the start of something beautiful or at least "full of stars".

Don't forget you can contact us at @FrankensteinRPG on Twitter or via gmail at [email protected] or alternatively please leave a message at Anchor, review on your podcast of choice or just plain recommend us! Thanks for listening.

  • Episode 13 A review of the playtest and the live recording of the show at Grogmeet 2021

In this episode of the quest to manufacture a Role Playing Game from the best parts of ALL the other Role Playing Games out there we review how the playtest went with the playtesters from Grogmeet: Mark, Mark, Mike, Matt and Neil - gentlemen all!

In the second half of the pod we have the actual LIVE recording of the podcast in front of a hand picked squad of Grognards who had assembled to play RPGs and found themselves at a recording of a podcast gameshow! Thankfully they all joined in and I think had a great time. Thanks to our panelists Ian Cooper (line editor for Chaosium of Heroquest https://www.chaosium.com/heroquest-2/ ) Paul Fricker of the Good Friends of Jackson Elias https://blasphemoustomes.com/ and Dirk the Dice and Judge Blythy of the always superb Grognard Files https://thegrognardfiles.com/

So, join us as we discover - did the game actually work? And what supplement should I launch first in support of the game? (As well as a GMs screen of course).

Science Fiction will come next year! Keep 'em peeled.

So in this episode I'm joined by Mark, Mark, Mike, Matt and Neil (try saying that quickly) as we look to try and design our characters for the game that we will be playing on Friday 12th November at that most august of events Grogmeet21 face to face in Manchester!!!

Thanks to Dirk the Dice and Judge Blythy for allowing us to get involved - really looking forward to it.

Of the two links in the show we have Mark's (Mk II Escort) Chimpions Podcast - https://chimpions.co.uk/ - this is their website

And Neil's blog - https://oldscouserroleplaying.com/ - both really worth not just a visit but adding to your favourites!

In this episode we focus on the challenge of how we start the process of generating characters from systems that have so little in common!

  • Episode 7 Skill Tests and "What is it that you do?" (Classes?)

In this episode we tackle the thorny subject of how you resolve actions in the Frankenstein's RPG and also decide whether we want to go for rigid class structures, free form 'jobs' or templates allowing you to develop your PC.

We also find out about Breakfast at the Grognard Files Batchelor flat, why we don't like Liminal and that Dave is being held captive by some Traveller fans who've gone that little bit too far!

  • Episode 6 - Resource Management? Oh and Hit Points, kind of.
So in this episode our motley gang explore Resource Management and the system that we'd most like to see from a plethora of examples of good to great management of resources! But this is a BIG topic and one that is not easy to distill into 20 or so minutes but I think we did a good job!
Next up is damage and hit points - to pool or not to pool, that is the question! Where on earth are we going to find something that gels with the other systems? Quick answer: we're probably not!
So we’re starting to get a shape to the game - I think we’ll be having a go at stitching some of this together soon - and of course we’ll be looking for playtesters! Maybe a con launch?

About Frankenstein's RPG

From the publisher's feed

In each episode as selected guests run through their RPG history and try to construct the perfect Role Playing Game. Each of the limbs of the game need to be harvested and then stitched together - ultimately I, Professor Frankenstein, will flick the switch to see if "It Lives!"
