  • Women’s History Month Celebrates Service Women of the Vietnam War
Women's History Month is celebrating veterans and active-duty military who keep us and have kept us out of constant harm’s way, often at great costs.
Women’s History Month is a powerful opportunity to honor the remarkable contributions of both veterans and active-duty military personnel. These courageous individuals have dedicated their lives to safeguarding our freedoms, often at great personal sacrifice. As we reflect on this, we also recognize that this year marks the 102nd anniversary of the end of World War I, a poignant reminder that war has shaped our collective history in profound ways. My mission is to share a rich tapestry of war stories that encompass diverse experiences, spanning age, gender, and race, while also illuminating the lasting impact on families and cultural legacies.
Countless vibrant and untold stories exist from this era. Today, we will focus on "herstory." Prepare to hear from the remarkable women who chose to forge their own paths in history. "The Voices of Women in Vietnam" is a remarkable replay of the National Public Radio show "With Good Reason."
From the moment I first listened to this poignant program, I was deeply moved, and I felt compelled to share it with others. It features the authentic voices of wives, widows, nurses, and librarians—extraordinary women who set aside their traditional roles to confront societal challenges and fight for a more equitable future for all.
Their struggles and triumphs are the foundation of the ongoing fight for gender equality The Vietnam War was my defining conflict, a period that immersed me in turmoil and uncertainty. I struggled to comprehend the complex issues surrounding U.S. involvement while mourning the loss of school friends who paid the ultimate price for freedom.
So, brew a cup of tea, settle in, and click the link below. This show is dedicated to all women and to your children and grandchildren as a testament to their resilience and strength. Thank you for your service, both then and now. Your sacrifices have paved the way for future generations.

  • Rotarians Meesh Peters and Sam Marigu create family beyond borders from Virginia to villiges in Africa.
We find ourselves in a season of uncertainty, with unrest stirring beneath the surface. Each of us has felt the delicate threads of our lives and communities pulled taut. These are days that test us. Yet, these are also days to embrace boundless empathy, to recognize that you are stronger than you realize, and to lift up voices that carry hope. Now is the moment to rethink what truly matters, to remember that the One who began the story is still writing miracles, and to let encouragement and service guide our steps.
Yet sometimes, to keep going and to serve others, we must become our own encouragers. We have to quiet the whispers of doubt, the 'if onlys' and 'am I enoughs.' The answer is always yes. In those moments, we are called to reach within, refresh our spirits, and step forward to share the unique gifts we were born to give.
Your value shines through your identity, your place, and your wisdom. The more you believe in yourself, serve right where you are, and put your knowledge to use, the more you shape who you will become and the impact you will have wherever life leads you next.
Today, my guests Meesh Peters and Sam Marigu, both dedicated Rotarians, embody true worth as they bring selfless service to villages across Africa.
As you listen to their stories of building families across continents, I am certain you will find inspiration.

  • REWIND: Sweep in a new season with the courage to be vulnerable with Dr. Brene Brown and Krista Tippett from NPR
Spring is the season during which the natural world revives and reinvigorates after the colder winter months. During spring, dormant plants begin to grow again, new seedlings sprout out of the ground and hibernating animals awake.
What are you doing to revive and reinvigorate your dreams, your soul, your mind? What script are you creating? Does it contain thoughts like “I am not enough!” or “I am more than enough!”? Are you stuck between your no longer and you not yet? Or are you willing to take new risks and experience the vulnerability that comes with it? Do you understand that hope is a consequence of struggle? What is your mirror telling you?
I invite you to take a listen to an NPR On Being podcast that I treasure and feel compelled to share between Krista Tippet and Brene Brown about Courage and Vulnerability. It is NOT comfortable, yet it is necessary to hear.
It is one of those experiences, when you finish listening, you may say to yourself, Wow! I thought I was the only one.
Take a listen, and get smarter. Then let me know what you think. Maybe we can continue the conversation around the Frankly Speaking with Tyra G table.

  • Tapping into Joy featuring Deb Beroset, award-winning journalist, speaker, and seasoned PR expert.
Author and coach Iyanla Vanzant, in her 2000 book, Until Today, suggests,
"If you are waiting for something to happen that will make you happy, you are killing off your joy. Joy comes through you. Happiness comes to you. If you seek your joy within, you will be happy, no matter what happens. It is easy to believe in more than what you can see when you know you will be protected, guided, and blessed. If you only believe what you can see around you, you may miss the blessings right under your nose. If you have and hold love in your heart, you will always know what to do and what to say. If you measure out how much love to give, you will undoubtedly meet people and situations who have a reflective measure of love for you. Nothing can happen for you in the outside world until you create the energy to attract it to and through your inside world."
Please pull up a chair at the Frankly Speaking table with Deb Beroset as she unveils her secret ingredients for Tapping into Joy. With a knack for helping people rediscover their vibrant, magical spark and bring it to life, Deb is the visionary behind MOXIE CREATIVE & CONSULTING, INC.

  • REWIND: Unwrapping his gift of music featuring vocalist Mr. Everett Greene.
A 2018 blog written by musicians who declare they believe in music says,
“Music is simply a very special language that everyone understands. There is no feeling that cannot be described and transported through music. It preserves memories for eternity and turns dreams into reality. It caresses the soul or screams unmistakably. Music conquers fear, dries tears, and gives courage and strength. It is the safe and expressive home of our emotions – with all facets between joy and pain, irrepressible lust for life, and thoughtfulness.
Music can turn enemies into friends and cross borders. It can ensure that the injustices of this world are heard and seen and unite generations, nations, and cultures incomparably. It can raise its voice, put its finger directly into the wound of grievances, and take people into its protective arms.
Feel these words come alive as my guest, vocalist Mr. Everett Green, and the Buselli Wallarab Jazz Orchestra provide a memorable season soundtrack. Be inspired! Share!
