    Valentina Martelli shares her experience on the occasion of ITALIAN STORIES DAY, this year taking place in Los Angeles on 25th June 2019.

    Valentina Martelli has been invited to ITALIAN STORIES DAY to introduce her new project called ITTV Festival created by Good Girls Production (Valentina Martelli, Cristina Scognamillo and Francesca Scorcucchi) and Marco Testa LA, the Armando Testa company that promotes operations related to the work of entertainment in Hollywood. The Festival will be officially launched in September. It will collect all the possible elements that Italy can offer, with the scope to propose it to the American producers, but also to bring them in Italy and use Italian structures. “International TV is the future and we are working on it”.

    Italy can offer to America so many theatres and natural sets and Tv have a strong hunger for new contents. Valentina Martelli thinks that in this new scenario, with big international all tv channels like Hulu, Netflix and Amazon, Italy could offer a lot to the US and to the other countries interested in producing new movies and tv series.

    Steven Gaydos shares his experience on the occasion of ITALIAN STORIES DAY, this year taking place in Los Angeles on 25th June 2019.

    Steven Gaydos directs the planning and production of the nearly 250 “Vplus” editorial feature sections in Variety, Daily Variety and on Variety.com. This includes all of the “Eye on the Oscar” sections and other awards season feature sections, as well as sections throughout the year covering the international entertainment business, music, home entertainment, technology, independent film, ie the entire gamut of entertainment business journalism. Among the numerous features projects Gaydos has launched, he created Variety’s internationally recognized “Ten to Watch” series, which spotlights emerging talents in directing, acting, producing, writing, comedy and cinematography, as well as the “Impact” series which chronicles individual achievements in various sectors of the business, such as the influential “Women’s Impact,” “Youth Impact,” “Music Impact” and “Comedy Impact” reports.In addition to directing the features editorial operations, Gaydos directs Variety’s fast-growing Custom Publishing operations. He also served for five years as international managing director ofVariety, overseeing the global editorial operations from the London office from 2000-2005. Gaydos serves on the board of the British Independent Film Awards and is a member of the Writers Guild of America, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and the European Film Academy. Gaydos is author of the Variety Putnam book, “The Variety Guide to Film Festivals,” “Movie Talk from the Frontlines” (McFarland) and “Cannes: 50 Years of Sun, Sex and Celluloid” (Miramax/Hyperion). Gaydos also appears frequently as an entertainment business authority on CNN, MSNBC, NPR, BBC, Sky News, etc.

    Steven Gaydos thinks there are universal themes that can unite people with different cultures. At the Italian Stories Day he listened different stories with big relevance to issues that are very powerful in the news nowadays. Steven belives that Italy is more than ready to receive American film makers: Cinecittà is renovated and there is so much going on. “I think that the moment is great for new stories to be told from Italy”.

    Tiziana Triana shares her experience on the occasion of ITALIAN STORIES DAY, this year taking place in Los Angeles on 25th June 2019. Tiziana has been invited in L.A. to talk about her first novel La Luna Nera that will soon become a new Netflix tv serie.

    Tiziana Triana, is the Editorial Director and Non Fiction Editor in Chief at Fandango Libri, an independent publishing house based in Rome. She has been working in publishing since 2002. Her first novel, Luna Nera – Le Città Perdute (Black Moon – The Lost Cities), the first volume of a new-adult trilogy, will be published in Italy by Marsilio-Sonzogno in October 2019.

    With the help of Italian Film Commission she could realize her dream. Through the tv show based on her novel, the audience will appreciate the beauty of some small town around Rome that not everybody knows. Tiziana is a fan of American cinema: “I think that Americans could teach us a lot, as they say sometimes ‘Italians do it better’, but I would add that Americans do it faster!”. She really loves the high quality of Italian authors, but Americans are more rapid and professional. “Joining forces we could do great things.”

    The Italian Film Commissions association, comprising 17 Film Commissions located all over Italy, is a benchmark for national and international productions, investors, authors, professional operators and institutions operating in the cinema and audiovisual sector. The Italian Film Commissions brings together organisms that provide free of charge services such as logistic assistance, access to financial resources, the granting of permits, a mapping of qualified manpower and service providers and the search for locations. It aims to create incentives for investments in the cinema and audiovisual sector in the individual regions, offering a unified image of the Italian world of cinema narrated in its regional specificities, promoting the different territories in terms of their distinctive cultural, artistic, touristic, landscape and industrial features.

    Stefania Auci shares her experience on the occasion of ITALIAN STORIES DAY, this year taking place in Los Angeles on 25th June 2019.

    Stefania Auci, a Sicilian teacher, has been writing for literary blogs and on-line publications for a long time. She is the author of two popular women’s fiction novels for Harlequin Mondadori and of the historical novel Florence, published in 2015 by Baldini e Castoldi.

    Stefania has been invited at ITALIAN STORIES DAY as the author of I Leoni di Sicilia, a publishing case, whose rights have already been purchased, among others, in France, Germany, Holland, Spain and the United States. The novel tells the story of the Florio’s, a historic family from Palermo that, starting from a spice shop, managed to get higher than everyone, not without arousing envy… The second volume featuring the Florio dynasty is due in 2020.

    Stefania thinks that Italians have a lot of original stories to tell to the international audience. There are universal values in stories of rise and fall, that could touch anybody’s heart in the world. She hope that soon her book”I leoni di Sicilia” could be converted in a tv series and that would be a dream come true. Gomorrah, for example had a great success, but it is showing a criminal side of Italy. “My book will represent the beauty and the deepness of southern people”.

He’d love to come back to Sicily, where he tried to climb mount Etna with a pair of tennis shoes. “It was the wrong choice at the time for sure, but I could make a movie out of that story!”

Also thanks to subtitles, language barriers are now more subtle in the world of cinema and tv. Immigration from Italy has been huge in US history, so many people feels very close to our country and they love to see audiovisual contents with an Italian DNA.

    Istituto Luce Cinecittà is a public company that works as an operative arm of the Ministry of Culture for the Italian film industry. It is the result of the merging of Cinecittà Holding and Istituto Luce, the latter being the first state film company in Europe, founded in 1924. Istituto Luce Cinecittà is the state-owned company dedicated to the conservation, promotion and support of Italian Cinema worldwide. One of the most important pillars of its heritage and activities is Istituto Luce – Historical Film and Photo Archive made up of numerous collections of newsreels and documentaries in more than 150000 titles ranging from the beginnings of cinema to our days, and some three million photos, covering different events from the 1920s to the 1970s. The archive is constantly engaged in acquisition from a variety of sources, cataloguing and digitization and hundreds of thousands of films and photos are available online for free at www.archivioluce.com. For the exceptional cultural and historical value of its film heritage, the Archive is part of the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.

    Istituto Luce Cinecittà distributes and supports domestically the theatrical releases of Italian first and second time feature films; moreover, institutional work includes promoting Italian cinema both at home and abroad by means of retrospectives dedicated to the great authors, actors and personalities of the past and their classic films, as well contemporary ones, in collaboration with the most prestigious international institutions, including the Academy of Motion Pictures, Art & Sciences, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the London BFI, the Cinematheque Française in Paris. Istituto Luce Cinecittà cooperates with major film festival such as Cannes, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Toronto, Shanghai, Tokyo, Locarno, New York, London.     The Apulia Film Commission Foundation, set up under regional legislation, was established in 2007 with the aim of attracting audiovisual production companies to the area through the good value of its facilities, the professionalism of its skilled personnel and the lowering of costs for travel, cast, crew and location scouting in the region.

    International companies are more and more interested in shooting new movies in Puglia. In September they are going to shoot the new James Bond movie in that region. The American audience will hopefully be more and more interested in our country and in the South of Italy as a new set location. Italian cinema is now increasing and heading to a new Italian renaissance. Puglia will be there, offering its amazing towns and professionalism to all the film makers.

    “With no story there is no movie. We had many success of Italian stories internationally, that started as Italian books. As a Film Commission we need to focus on new stories to open new horizons and business opportunities. Italian writers have the capacity to talk about topics like mafia in a new way, different and full of human its and new points of view. I think that in this global market, local stories are coming back.”
