He tells us about the emphasis placed on helping filmmakers finding an audience through fascinating industry events, the new thematic programmes that will make up the bulk of the programming but also reflects upon the different ways in which the festival has innovated and renovated itself throughout the years and more specifically throughout the years in which he filled the role of its director.
One of the largest public film events in the world, IFFR actively supports independent filmmaking from around the globe and is a recognized platform in Europe for launching new films and talent.

Ali Mosaffa – Filmmaker and actor – The Last Step
Iranian filmmaker Ali Mosaffa returned behind the camera in his first directorial feature after his 2005 debut “Portrait of a Lady Far Away” with his latest film “The Last Step” – which after an award winning run in the festival circuit – was shown at the 4th edition of the Festival of Iranian Film in Prague.
We chat with Ali about his influences from James Joyce’s story “The Dead” and Leo Tolstoy and his story “The Death of Ivan Ilyich” in his own narrative. We also ask him about the casting about his real life wife and Iranian acting superstar Leila Hatami – who is superb in the film – and how their real life relationship affected the film. On top of that, we ask him whether being an actor of international fame helped him bring the film to the screen and get his project financed.
A poet meditation of love and death in contemporary Tehran, “The Last Step” is a compelling tale of an Iranian couple before, during and after the husband’s death. Drifting through space and time and living the peculiar moments of his married life once again, the dead husband becomes the deceitful narrator and the disappointed witness to an old love triangle.

This year’s recipient of Courmayeur Noir in Festival’s Raymond Chandler Award – Jeffery Deaver talks to Chiara Nicoletti about FEAR and how it changes with time and age. As announced during his meeting with the Noir Fest audience, Deaver remarks on the fact that he wouldn’t want to get involved in the scriptwriting process, not even when it would be working on the adaptation of his books to the big screen. When asked about what characteristics make a serial killer a remarkable one, Deaver reveals and introduces us to a difference between the Serial Killer and the Multiple offender. The film format is not something Jeffery Deaver is interested in contributing at but, when it comes to TV Series, his interest in writing, participating and seeing his books turned into a TV show, is alive and vivid. The author has presented to the italian audience his new book THE SKIN COLLECTOR.
