The 16th edition of Rome Film Festival open its doors guided by Jessica Chastain, star and producer of The Eyes of Tammy Faye, the opening film of the Fest, a cinematographic look at the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of the televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. On the red carpet of the Festival with co-star Vincent D’Onofrio, Jessica Chastain looks back at her filmography and analyze the many women she got to proudly portray through her career.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye: The film, based on a true story, is a look at the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of the televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker, portrayed by Jessica Chastain. In the 1970s and 80s, Tammy Faye and her husband Jim Bakker (Andrew Garfield) founded the most important American religious broadcasting network, created a major theme park and rose to fame thanks to their message of love, acceptance and prosperity. Tammy Faye was legendary for her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. Over the years however, financial improprieties, scheming rivals and scandal toppled the multi-million dollar empire they had so carefully constructed.

PODCAST | Matt Micucci interviews John Andreas Andersen, director of the film The North Sea.

A conversation with John Andreas Andersen, director of The North Sea, which had its premiere in the official selection of the 2021 Rome Film Fest. In this interview, the filmmaker talks about the real events and situations that inspired this spectacular disaster movie. But he also talks about wanting to entertaining the audience, while recognizing the power of genre films in sparking debates and getting people to think about serious issues.

The North Sea: On Christmas Eve in Norway, in 1969, the government made an announcement that would change the history of the country forever: one of the largest deposits of oil in the world had been discovered in the North Sea. It would be dubbed Ekofisk, and launch an unprecedented financial scramble. From that day, fifty years of experience in the oil field has provided us with abundant opportunities, but it is likely that we still haven’t fully understood the real environmental fallout from this discovery and subsequent operations extracting oil from the North Sea. Should the exploit have a future, or need we consider that fifty years ago, one of the most dangerous weapons of mass destruction in the world was discovered?
