Film Critics – Miro Frakic, Lilla Puskas, Andra Petrescu

This year, as part of the Talents Sarajevo programme, FRED’s Matt Micucci mentored the film critics in the “art” of interviewing, reporting and reviewing for the radio, and how such practices compare with the construction of written criticism and film journalism. Miro Frak (Croatia), Andra Petrescu (Romania) and Lilla Puskas (Hungary) were part of the group that focused on interviewing.

For this interview, Miro takes over as host, and interviews his fellow critics Andra and Lilla on their experience at Talents Sarajevo, what they did, what they learnt and their impression of the Sarajevo Film Festival in general. The three then also give their insightful opinions on the state of film journalism and the cinematic culture in their respective countries, as well as the ways in which they think that cinema is promoted (or not promoted) in them.

Mirjana Karanovic – Mentor – Film Stage Studio

FRED’s Matt Micucci interviews Mirjana Karanovic, mentor of the first edition of the Film Stage Studio workshop of the Talents Sarajevo programme, from the 21st Sarajevo Film Festival.

The workshop is described by Talents Sarajevo as a cross-disciplinary training for a selected number of all participating talent professions, and was mentored by Mirjana together with Gyula Gazdag, both experts and educators in the field of acting and directing for both film and theatre. Mirjana tells us about it in more detail, by running through what happened in the course of its duration day by day.

She also draws her own conclusion and comments on the importants of workshops like Film Stage Studio, without hiding the fact that she hopes the workshop will be followed by a second edition at next year’s Sarajevo Film Festival.

We also ask Eva more generally about an overview of what makes films and cinematic projects from the South Eastern region so interesting and appealing.

Aida Begic – Filmmaker

FRED’s Matt Micucci interviews filmmaker Aida Begic, who is presenting her first “in development” project this year, in the international co-production market CineLink from the 21st Sarajevo Film Festival.

Aida talks about her appreciation of the festival, and history with the festival, which began with her volunteering at previous editions and eventually takes us to present day, in which her previous works were featured as its opening films. Aida then talks with us about the project that is featured in the CineLink programme, named “A Ballad”.

Jovan Marjanovic – Head of Industry – Sarajevo Film Festival

FRED’s Matt Micucci interviews Jovan Marjanovic, head of industry of the Sarajevo Film Festival. He tells us about how the industry activities of the Sarajevo Film Festival, which this year has reached its 21st edition, have evolved throughout the years to become a reference point for the region and for other film festivals around Europe. He also gives us an overview of various sections, such as CineLink, the regional panels, the Sarajevo City of Film and more.

During its more than 10 years in existence, Sarajevo Film Festival’s industry section has become the major hub for regional film professionals and played a crucial role in the development of regional co-production.  It has also become a key destination for professionals from across Europe who search for talent and co-production possibilities, or simply wish to get in-depth knowledge on the development of this dynamic region.
