WFMD Radio Sports is proud to announce our Nymeo Federal Credit Union High School Athletes of the Month for March and they both attend Catoctin High School!   The male athlete is swimmer Remington Oland who doubled at the Maryland state swim meet this year winning two events:  The 200 meter individual medley with  a time of  1 minute 54.2 seconds.   Then taking the  100 meter backstroke by setting a state record with a time of 50.42!   Earlier in the season he broke his own meet records at the Frederick County Meet witnning the 200 individual medley and and 100 backstroke!   He plans to continue his swimming career at the University of Cincinnati next season.

The female athlete is softball sensation Jessi Bryant of Catoctin.    It is hard to believe she could surpass her accomplishments from last season when she set the state single season home run record but in this young 2017 softball season she is off to a blazing start!   Just this past Monday she led her team to a big 12-1 win over arch rival  Walkersville.   All she did was  hit two home runs (a grand slam and a two run shot)  and she pitched a two hitter against the Lions and had a total of 7 rbi's.    Not a bad day's work!    Two weeks ago against Urbana Jessi pitched a one hitter and got the 200th  strikeout of her career with a total of 8 for the game.    Current statistics show her third in the county in hitting with a .667 average,  first in the county in average rbi's per game,  4th in Earned Run Average and 5th in strikeouts.   

WFMD's Ed Lulie welcomes Greg Swatek of the Frederick News Post as guest this week on Frederick County Sports Weekend.  Zach Thomas, Clay Smith, Drew Demich, Kendall Bresee, Ryan Capstick, Dajah Gee, are just a few of the outstanding Frederick County sports stars of the past few years who have gone on to big time success at the college level.   Frederick County has become a state power in wrestling, track and field,  football, baseball,  soccer, lacrosse and so many other sports.  And so far this year there  have been swimming champions, a Middletown wrestler who won state titles each of his four years in competition,  and of course, the St. John's Catholic Prep and  Frederick High School Girls Basketball teams each winning a state championship!
