As we diligently seek conversation with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we long today to find where God is, what of our lives we might find in, and how we might worship, confess, give thanks and request of our King, Savior, and Teacher through Psalm 102:11-16

Growing - Encouragement and Edification (repub.)

In examining the question, "What is Prayer?" We accidentally learn why we pray.

Even though no Biblical person asks why we pray? Their lives reveal our anguished need for prayer.

We are sinners. Until glory, we struggle with sin. Prayer is the act of faith that assures our soul.

We are complex lonely beings, and prayer brings us into the arms of our heavenly Father, who knows us, holds us, and comforts us.

Fathers calling out for their children, Mark 9, Matthew 9, Luke 7.

A roofing job, Mark 2

Psalm 39, Psalm 42

The woman who touched Jesus' robe, Luke 8.

Welcome to our supplemental series on using and encouraging The Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer, a series of demonstrations using the Free Range Preacher's prayer journal.

Reality:

God's mercies have sustained me through this Christian sojourn through our conversation. The Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer lay the Biblical underpinnings for our converse with Holy God and then provide opportunities to build on those underpinnings, leading us through the Psalms.

Our So What?

The Holy Spirit teaches us through the word of God:

Prayer through examples.

The discipline of daily prayer.

The Spirit conveys the vibrant, affectionate language of heartfelt prayer.

The Spirit teaches us the sincere vigor of prayer.

Chiefly, the Spirit teaches of the God to whom we pray.

We look at Psalm 55 and discover how we might answer the questions:

Where is God in this passage?

Is any circumstance of mine reflected in this Psalm?

What is Psalm 55 leads me to worship, thanksgiving, confession, and supplication.

Welcome to Portugal, the oldest nation in Europe, I have it on reliable information, and one of the movers in the Age of Discovery. We are glad you are listening!

"Whatever Leads us to prayer is a good thing." One of the earliest sermons I read, as a novice Christian from Charles Spurgeon, and he included all manner of negative circumstances. We also include your hosts concerns.

My confession is my problem with two "prayer movements" I am undecided on. Primarily, I am troubled with movements and or techniques (forms of prayer), which do not come from our hearts. However…and it is a big however:

Our So What?

Whatever leads us to pray is a good thing. So if a movement, technique, prayer help, or anything else leads us to talk to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer, keep using them.

The Holy Spirit will refine our prayer lives as we grow.

"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14 "He shall glorify Me; for He shall take of Mine, and shall disclose it to you. 15 "All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said, that He takes of Mine, and will disclose it to you."

John 16:13-15

Today, we highlight Brazil, a country with a fascinating history, and we learn one little thing about Dom Pedro I. More importantly, as I know a little of the countries where there are listeners to our podcast, I am amazed by the intricate web of the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ there really is. Thank you to all our listeners in Brazil!

In part one on what a dynamic relationship, prayer life, looks like we consider three concepts:

We expect truth in our conversation with Almighty God:

When He says:

"The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, But the prayer of the upright is His delight."

We believe Him; our converse is His delight.

His word is a serious matter:

Romans 15:4, 1 Corinthians 10:11, Matthew 11:28-31, and Revelation 3:20:

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me."

We believe in His call to community with Him.

And then:

We slow down when we pray, seeking to be attentive to what the Holy Spirit wants us to pay attention to.

Our So What?

We expect He is telling us the truth, we believe His word.

We are serious about his call to be intimate in our father-child relationship, and we slow down to listen to Him, letting him talk back to us.

We learn some surprising, to me facts about Qatar, and Bahrain!

Eternal life is a dynamic life.

"And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.

The very fact that we are learning to know and apprehend our Creator and Savior is an active process and will be for all eternity.

The import of our new life in Christ means it is a real relationship we have and, therefore, dynamic. It only follows then as we learn of Him; through communion, our conversations and prayers are also dynamic.

The third definition of dynamic is:

Characterized by continuous change, activity, or progress, or as we assert, a wrestling match. Once the whistle blows, all the static components of prayer become dynamic.

We see:

Our purposes and God's purposes are often at odds with each other. In John 12, after being confronted with Jesus' words about His death, the people say:

"The multitude therefore answered Him, "We have heard out of the Law that the Christ is to remain forever; and how can You say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this Son of Man?"

John 12:34

We learn that God gives us what is good and wise; sometimes, it looks different than we asked. Abraham may have wondered at the destruction of Sodom, but God said yes to Abraham's true concern:

Thus it came about, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot lived.

Genesis 19:29

And even late in life, David and Nathan learned it is not good to presume on the promises of God:

4 "Go and tell David My servant, 'Thus says the LORD, "You shall not build a house for Me to dwell in;

1 Chronicles 17:4

Our So What?

We are all in the process of learning just who this "Son of Man" is through our dynamic conversation with Him.

This is an episode from the past. (Different title) We have cleaned up the audio; thank You, Jesus!

We walk and pray by faith. So important is faith to our Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer, who repeats Himself, that the righteous walk by faith. Believing Him causes great rejoicing..

We rejoice and draw close to our Savior, the great I AM, as he strengthens our faith through the struggles of Jacob.

We follow Jacob, who says:

"…You have bereaved me of my children: Joseph is no more, and Simeon is no more, and you would take Benjamin; all these things are against me." (In short: The past, present, and future Stink!)

Genesis 42:36

Then we follow David, who, in loss, shows us our redeemed past through our future hope.

The peace of Peter, as he sleeps soundly the night before his scheduled execution, teaches us not to fear present troubles.

Finally, learning from Paul that death in our future is "much better" than this present life.

Our So what?

Rejoice in faith:

Our past, present, and future hold much more glory and joy than we can even comprehend at this moment, for God's work is evident in all three.

Glory to our Savior, Jesus the Christ.
