Last week Henry brought a great Veterans Day message about Service.

 

The men and women of our military took an oath – signing a blank check up to and including their life – to serve and defend our country from enemies foreign and domestic.

 

As followers/disciples of Christ we are called to be faithful servants of the One we serve – signing a blank check – up to and including our life!

 

Technically, we die first to ourselves, Our will, our way, then we start to truly live, then our service is an act of worship!  [Gal 2:20]

 

We all serve somebody!

Joshua 24:15a ~ But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve... ...but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

 

As followers of Christ, we are called to both serve and to lead...

 

Jesus said in Matt 20:28 that he came not to be served, but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.

 

Jesus modeled what Servant Leadership looks like for us to follow!

 

What comes first in your life, what your focus is on and what you’re willing to sacrifice for, identifies what or who you serve!

Identifies what or who is your god!

* Freedom: There is NO Freedom apart from Jesus Christ.

* A Battle-Ready Brotherhood: In that we have sharpened each other with the Truth of God’s Word, we will be Strong in the Lord and His mighty power, able to stand against the devil’s schemes.

* Gospel: The Good News of Jesus Christ.

 God Created - Man Fell –

God Rescued - Jesus Restored

* Prayer & Worship:

Prayer ~ Our always available, direct line and conversation with God.

Worship ~ Is the Life We Live!  Our: Thoughts ~ Time ~ Talent ~ Treasure

* Bible: The Living Word of God, that we may Know Him and His Will for our life.

R.E.A.D. = Read it ~ Evaluate it ~ Apply it ~ Live it!

 

To Live it...

* Right Motives… Jesus is on the Throne! Jesus is GOD of my life not me.

* Christ is ALIVE in me… There’s visible Growth, development, maturity in my life as I follow Christ!  We see evidence of the Fruit of the Spirit of God alive in me!

* I’m Intentionally Transformed, into the image of Jesus Christ. Change is taking place and I am becoming more and more CHRIST-LIKE.

The Road Map to Freedom. "The Bible, God’s Word - We Live It",  JD Tew

The Question we’ve been asking ourselves…  “Is God’s Word R.E.A.L. in our life?”

How does it become R.E.A.L.?

 

* We READ IT? It has little to no impact and influence unless we READ IT!

 

* We EVALUATE/EXAMINE It? If not, how do we know where we are and where we need to go!

 

* We APPLY it! When a Truth is discovered we ACT on that TRUTH!  Just like directions on a map, if we don’t follow it we will end up going the wrong way and LOST!

 

Last week Bill shared about “Applying It.”  Making God’s Word Practical and Personal in our life! There’s nothing more PRACTICAL and PERSONAL than Reading it, Evaluating it, and Applying in to our life!  

 

Applying It  =  We “DO” what God’s Word says!  When we discover a TRUTH we ACT on what we’ve discovered!  It’s simply Obedience!  

 

Today we’re on the last point…  We LIVE IT!

 

Isn’t Applying It and Living It the same thing?   Yes and no.   

 

 

How can we LIVE IT! 

 

* MOTIVE - Our Motives don’t change until Christ is on the throne of our heart! As long as we’re on the throne, and we’re “god” in our life, our motives are going to be jacked up!   IF I’M ON THE THRONE IT’S GOING TO BE “MY WILL BE DONE!”

 

 

Motive is “why” we do what we do.   It’s our Desire…  or what drives us to do what we do.  

 

 

In Matthew 7 Jesus addressed the issue of Motive…  

Matthew 7:21-24 - 21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

 

Key Phrase: “Only those who actually do the will of My Father in Heaven will enter.”    (Motive is revealed by who’s “Will” is being followed and done.)

 

* “LIVING” IT - Emphasis on “LIVING.”   Not dead.  There’s Activity.   But what kind of Activity? 

 

Living isn’t just Living… Living is “LIVING “THE” LIFE THAT CHRIST DIED TO GIVE US!”  

 

We see Growth, Development, Maturity in Christ.  Fruit of the Holy Spirit… Evidence of A LIFE being LIVED in Christ!   The WILL of the Father being done!

 

1 John 5:12 - He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

 

2 Corinthians 4: 6-7 - 6 For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.  7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

 

Galatians 2:20 -  My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

 

John 5:39-40  - 39 “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! 40 Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.

 

John 14:6 – Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth,

Is God’s Word REAL in your life?

R – Read His Word

E – Evaluate It

A – Apply It

L – Live It

READ IT!  Why?

1. We Read God’s Word to KNOW HIM, to experience an intimate and personal relationship HIM!

John 17:3 ~ “This is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”  

2. We Read God’s Word in order to Live a life of Faith in Him (Believing, Trusting, Obeying).

It’s the primary way we know about God and the primary tool the Holy Spirit uses to open our eyes to the Truth!

Philippians 3:8 ~ 8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.

 

Reading the Bible is just the first step...

EVALUATE IT!

I grew up in church, I read the Bible. (Hunting) I thought I knew God, but I didn’t, I just knew about Him.  And a lot of what I thought was true,wasn’t!

I didn’t evaluate or examine what I was reading...

I never took a closer look.  I didn’t look to see what was being said to the original audience.  What it meant to them.  How they responded ....  It wasn’t REAL to me....

 

John 17:17 ~ Jesus prayed: Sanctify them (Set them apart, make them holy, approved, acceptable) by the truth; your Word is Truth.

 

God’s Word has God’s Power to bring revelation and transformation to our lives now; And change our destination for eternity!!

 

But you need to read it and evaluate it for yourself!  

 

** I’m not saying God won’t speak to you through His Word TODAY ~ open your eyes to the Truth ~ and change your life here and for eternity in an instant! ** HE CAN AND DOES DO THAT!!!

 

But to experience continued growth and maturity in your faith, to walk in victory over sin and self and Satan ~ you need to Read God’s Wordand Evaluate God’s Word for yourself... but it’s more than that....

 

To make God’s Word REAL in your life...

 

You’ve got to APPLY IT to your life!  

But How???

 

My prayer today is that you leave with both Practical and Personal toolsto APPLY scripture to your life through the power of the Holy Spirit, that bring glory to God and advances His kingdom in and through you!

 

The Bible is a book about God, It all points to JESUS, it’s not a book about us.  

Yet Paul say everything in the Bible was written FOR us:

 

Romans 15:4 niv ~ For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scripturesand the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

 

How can the Bible be about God and yet be written to teach us?

 

As David Powlison explains, The Bible was written to others—but speaks to you. The Bible is about God—but draws you in. Your challenge is always to reapply Scripture afresh, because God’s purpose is always to rescript your life.  

 

Scripture flips the script!

 

Do you realize your life part of a bigger story?

You’re part of God’s story!

 

But are you following HIS script (HIS DESIGN) for your life?

 

Satan wants you to follow him to your destruction...

 

God is calling you to follow His script ~ His plan for your life ~ to an eternity with HIM that beings when you ...

Road Map to Freedom…  The Bible, God’s Word.

How many want God, God’s Word and Christ to be R.E.A.L. in their Life?

R – Read His Word

E – Evaluate It

A – Apply It

L – Live It

READ IT!

2 Primary Reasons to READ God’s Word:

* We read God’s Word to KNOW HIM, to experience an intimate and personal relationship HIM!

THAT IS OUR DESTINATION!  THAT is where we’re going! Heaven is simply a “by-product” of the intimate Relationship with Jesus! People who want Heaven without an intimate relationship with Jesus, have created a god that doesn’t exist! 

John 17:3 - 3 And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.

* We Read God’s Word in order to Live a life of Faith in Him (Believing, Trusting, Obeying).

How in the world are we going to live a life of Faith that pleases Him if we don’t KNOW Him and don’t READ HIS WORD!

EVALUATE IT!

Evaluate or Examine = 

* Inspecting, investigating, analyzing thoroughly, taking a closer more detailed look.

 

* Looking at the “value, nature, character, integrity” of something or someone.

 

Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

God’s Word has already been established as TRUTH…  So, what are we Evaluating it for?  (Why Inspect, Investigate, Analyze, look closer & in more detail?  Because it’s the RoadMap for a Resurrected LIFE Here and Now and ETERNAL LIFE when we leave here!

 

* It Reveals our Sinful Nature.

* It Reveals God’s Plan for us to be Restored to Him.

* It Reveals HOW we are Restored. The RIGHT Relationship with Him.  The one that HE wants.

* It Reveals how to Live a life of Faith in Him. (Believing, Trusting, Obeying)

* It Provides Spiritual, Mental, Emotional and Physical Nourishment

* It reveals how to be Set Apart, Holy…

* It gives us Hope!

* It gives us Joy!

* It gives us Strength for the Battle

* It gives us Wisdom

* It gives us Direction/Guidance

* It keep us from falling into Temptation

* It provides Correction

* It gives us Comfort

* It provides Protection and Provision.

* It Encourages and builds us up.

* It Equips us to be what God wants us to be here and Now!

 

Those are just a FEW things we can discover if we Evaluate and Examine God’s Word!

 

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - 16 All Scripture is inspired by God (Breathed out by God, through His divine inspiration) and is useful (profitable, productive) to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. (God’s Word is alive!  As we read the Holy Spirit convicts, corrects, counsels and comfort us… leads us into all TRUTH.) 17 God uses it (His Word) to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. (To Serve Him and do the things He has called and commanded us to do.)

 

* The Bible is “Inspired by God.” (I went over this in great detail last Sunday but we can’t skip over it!)

 

Inspired = Breathed out by God!

Road Map to Freedom…  The Bible, God’s Word.

Today on our Road Map we’re actually looking at the Map itself… The Bible, The Word of God.    

The Bible, God’s Word is CRITICAL to our LIFE and our not being LOST in LIFE!   That’s the primary goal of satan… to make sure you’re lost, not just in this life but for all eternity!  

Why read the Bible?  

Just before His death on the Cross. Jesus Prayed in John 17:3,  

“This is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”  

Later in Verse 21 - 21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.

John 8:31-32 - So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ 9 and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.

2. We Read God’s Word in order to Follow HIM and live a life of Faith (Believing, Trusting, Obeying) that honors and pleases God.

How in the world are we going to live a life of Faith that pleases God if we don’t know HIM intimately, and then do what Pleases Him!

Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.  

Psalm 119:10-11 - With all my heart I try to obey you. Don’t let me break your commands.  11 I have taken (hidden) your words to heart so I would not sin against you.

Joshua 1:9 - 8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Romans 12:2 - Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. (Through His Spirit and His Word!) Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Romans 15:4 – 4 Everything that was written in the past was written to teach us. The Scriptures give us patience and encouragement so that we can have hope.

IF we want Christ to be R.E.A.L. in our Life (KNOWING Him and PLEASING HIM) them we MUST:  

R – Read It

E – Evaluate it

A – Apply It

L – Live It

* What is Worship?

* Why are we supposed to Worship?

* How do we Worship?

 

What is Worship? 

 

The English word "worship" comes from two Old English words that means Worthiness or Worth-ship.   It literally means to show (express) or give WORTH, VALUE to something or someone.

 

 

John Piper - “True worship is when we value or treasure God above all things.” 

 

John MacArthur – “Our innermost being responding with praise for all that God is, through our attitudes, actions, thoughts, words, based on the truth of God as He has revealed Himself.”  

 

 

Jesus said, Matthew 15:8–9 - “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.

“Vain” means, useless or with no results...  Our Worship is useless, it means “nothing” if our heart isn’t in it and our teachings are “human rules” not God’s commands! 

 

 

Jesus gave us the definition of Worship with the Woman at the well. 

 

John 4:23–24 - “The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

 

So, What is Worship? 

 

 

Worship is a Heart and a Head issue. 

 

Heart (Spirit) =  I’m all in!  All my Attention, Affection, Abilities and Assets fully and absolutely committed, and devoted to God, for God!

 

 

Head (Truth) = An accurate view of God!   Why?  Because our view of God determines everything...  IF we don’t KNOW Him or we have an inaccurate view of Him then what will we worship?!  We create an idol, some god that’s not God at all!  

 

 

IF I’m not all in, (Spirit) and I don’t have an accurate view of God (Truth) our worship will be in vain!  Worthless and useless!  

 

 

Why Worship? 

 

We were created to Worship.  God created Adam and Eve and all Humans with a capacity for Worshipping HIM!   Satan destroyed that relationship because he wanted Man’s worship! 

 

 

The issue isn’t IF we Worship... we all do.  The issue is the “object” of our worship.

God is God!  His “worth” is infinite, far beyond anything we can understand or comprehend.  HE is our Creator and Designer!  Look at what we’ve just learned (going through the Gospel)…

* God Created… Designed all things.

* Man Fell,

* God Rescued, and Redeemed us from satan, sin, self.

* Jesus Reconciles, Restores us to God

 

 

God the Son, (Jesus) stepped down from the throne of Heaven, came to live as flesh and blood to show us how to live… then He was crucified as God’s sacrifice and ours… for all sin.  He did that for us so we would be Reconciled and Restored to God!

 

 

THAT ALONE SHOULD BE REASON TO WORSHIP, TO SHOW HIM WORTH AND VALUE AND TREASURE HIM ABOVE ALL ...

Prayer: Our Always Open, Direct Line to God!

We’ve been preaching our way through the ‘‘Roadmap to Freedom”, which is our biblical explanation of HOW & WHY as Disciples of JESUS, we’re called to live in a particular way.

Within the context of 21st Century Freedom Biker Church, how & why we should BE HIS CHURCH.

Another 100 years, FBC probably look a little different, but The Message Doesn’t Change!

Over the last 4 weeks we’ve dug into the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus.

• God Created a perfect world. God’s Design is perfect!  (JESUS is GOD)

• Man Fell/Disobeyed.  SIN entered the world causing Separation / Brokenness.

• God Rescues/Redeems us…  Man couldn’t fix what was broken! Man couldn’t pay the penalty for his sin!

BUT GOD!!! God had a plan all along!!

For God SO LOVED the world that he sent his one & only Son that whosoever believes in Him will not parish but have eternal life. [in & through HIM]

Jesus is the only perfect One that could come down from heaven as a baby, live a perfect life to give himself as the perfect sacrifice, taking your place and mine, paying the just penalty for our sin, once and for all!

 

• Jesus Reconciles and Restores!  From Genesis to Revelation it’s all about Jesus!

Without Jesus, there is NO GOSPEL…  NO Rescue, NO Redemption, NO Reconciliation, No Restoration!

Philippians 2:6-11 - Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

What Satan and sin disrupted…  Jesus RECONCILED and RESTORED!!

Our Right Standing and Relationship with our HOLY GOD... DEBT CANCELLED – Paid in Full – RELATIONSHIP for eternity restored!!!

Satan - Sin - Separation – Brokenness - No longer has power over those that know Jesus as LORD of their life and Savior!

Jesus died for us, so we die to ourselves and live for HIM!

The Gospel is Incredibly Good News!

 

Next on the RTF is Prayer and Worship.

Opposite sides of the same coin.

 

Today, we’re going to dig into PRAYER:

Our always available, direct line and conversation with God!

 

Your perfect Heavenly Father is ALWAYS willing and ready to spend time with you!

Prayer definition: “Prayer is paying attention to God”

 

Andrew Murray: “Prayer is not a monologue, but a dialogue; God’s voice is it’s most important part.  Listening to God’s voice is the secret of the assurance that He will listen to mine.

They’re the two root things we struggle with!!

Pride is the root of our sin...

But I believe the majority of our struggles come out...

The Road Map to Freedom – The Gospel… 

On our Road Map we’ve been looking at the Gospel…

* God Created/Designed a perfect world.

* Man Fell/Disobeyed (sinned) against God…

* God Rescues/Redeems us…

 

Today…  Jesus Reconciles and Restores!  

 

Genesis 3:15 through Revelation is about God’s Plan to Rescue and Redeem Mankind, and the Main Character is Jesus!  

 

Without Jesus, There is NO GOSPEL…  NO Rescue, NO Redemption, NO Reconciliation, No Restoration! 

 

Colossians 1:15-20 - Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—

such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.

Everything was created through him and for him. 17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.

18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body.

He is the beginning, supreme (firstborn) over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.

Colossians 1:19-20 - For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and through him God reconciled everything to himself.

He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.

What satan and sin disrupted…  Jesus RECONCILED and RESTORED!!

Reconcile... means to bring back together… to a former state of “harmony and unity.”  Oneness.

Restore... means to reinstate, to put back, to return to a positive state.

The perfect blood of Jesus Christ (God in Human form) was given as a sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin… That was God’s Plan to Rescue, Redeem, Reconcile and Restore Man.

 

God couldn’t have Reconciled and Restored Man, unless Jesus came as a Man and died for us!   Man couldn’t do it… ONLY GOD COULD BE THE SACRIFICE FOR ALL SIN!   We all would be condemned to death and separation from God forever if we had to pay for our sin.

 

Not only did Jesus cancel the debt owed for sin, and His blood covers our sins…  it obliterates our sin…  it wipes them out forever!   (Ps. 103:12 - He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.)

 

Colossians 2:13-14 - 13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.

 

When Jesus said on the Cross, “It is finished!”   Whatever separation existed between God and mankind was removed and nailed to the cross!
