Do you have someone whom you look up to and appreciate their input into your life? How much does it suck when you discover you don’t see eye to eye on a few things, especially when these things are important and even close to your heart?

If we recognise that Jesus is with us in the storm or ready to meet us in the storm ahead, we simply need to ask Him for guidance and help. It seems in the story of Peter walking on the water (Matthew 14:22-36) we see that Peter wanted more than anything to be close to Jesus. So he asked Jesus if he could walk on the water. He moved from being a passive observer of the supernatural, to being an active participant!

"I am the operating system, you are the smartphone, he who installs Me means I am now part of all your online accounts and can develop many apps; apart from Me you are liable to crash."

Rather than shouting into the storm and not be heard, are we instead turning to the Prince of Peace and asking Him to remind us who we are and who His has made us to be?

We should expect uncomfortableness because the crucifixion and what Jesus did on the cross is at the very centre of our faith. We should look to Jesus as an example of how to deny ourselves and take up our crosses, for it is in His work that we find true comfort.

Rather than attempting to find our dream church, we should embrace the uncomfortable and difficult parts of the Christian life – a life that by default means we are connected to people, and people can be awkward, and in some cases downright peculiar!
