What are the laws protecting and restricting freedom of speech in Australia? From defamation, trying to ban the communist party, the racial discrimination act, 90s High Court cases, television broadcast regulations, to government secrecy laws - I dive into the broad and often misunderstood topic of freedom of speech in Australia. There's a lot to say! First off: we don't have a 1st amendment ensuring freedom of speech as a constitutional right. That's an American thing.
