Are younger Australians actually getting ahead?
In this episode, Tim and Cameron revisit some of the predictions they made earlier in the year and look at how things are playing out. They discuss interest rates, inflation, housing affordability, government spending and the growing financial pressure on younger Australians.
They also look at the flow-on effects for parents, with more young adults staying at home, families helping with property deposits and some Australians potentially delaying retirement to support their children.
It's a wide-ranging conversation about the economic pressures facing different generations, what might need to change, and why some of the short-term solutions may be creating longer-term problems.

Most farming families have a succession plan. The problem is it often lives in one person's head.
In this episode, Cameron Howlett - CEO and Independent Financial Adviser sits down with Shane Nicholas - Independent Financial Adviser and Partner at IWP. He talks through what it takes to hand over the family farm. He covers why fair rarely means equal, and why splitting the farm down the middle can leave it too small to run. He explains how control can pass to the farming child before the land does. He looks at how tax concessions shape the timetable. He also covers the step most plans miss: Mum and Dad need to fund their retirement off the farm.
Cameron also covers the conversations families tend to put off. These include protecting land if a relationship breaks down, keeping wills up to date as titles move, and the High Court's 2024 decision in Kramer v Stone on promises made to children who work the farm.
If the next generation is home, or thinking about coming home this one is for you.

This week, Shane Nicholas - Independent Financial Adviser and Partner is back on Freedonomix after a couple of months away. This week he talks with Cameron about his article, The Human Side of Investing: What Dalbar Really Tells Us.
Dalbar research tracks what investors actually earn when they move money in and out of the market. In 2024, the S&P 500 returned 25%. The average investor got 16.5%. In US bonds last year, investors kept about a third of the market return.
Shane and Cam explain why this happens. They cover fear, herd behaviour, the urge to "do something", and how our upbringing around money shapes our choices for life. They also share how a clear plan can help you feel safe enough to stay the course. That includes ring-fencing the money you need to live on, and waiting 48 hours before acting on a big decision.
A small gap each year adds up. On $1 million over 20 years, it can cost you $1.3 million.

Losing someone comes with grief, and then it comes with paperwork. Bank accounts. Wills. Super. Bills that were never in your name. In this episode, we cover the practical side of death that no one prepares you for, and why calling your financial adviser before you notify anyone else can save you months of headaches.
We cover:

We looked at our own client data on the IWP Life Survey. Clients who've been with us for a few years score higher across every area of life we measure, not just the financial one. Spiritual wellbeing showed the biggest jump.
That sent us looking at what other researchers have found. Vanguard says advised clients are about half as likely to report high financial stress. Russell Investments found confidence in reaching financial goals roughly doubles after advice. The CFP Board found advised households are better prepared, with more emergency savings and estate planning in place.
In this episode, Cameron Howlett and Chris Haggart walk through the numbers and the stories behind them. It's less about the returns and more about what changes when people stop wondering if they'll be okay.

We also look ahead to the big dates in September: US employment and CPI data, the Fed decision, and the RBA's next call.

In this podcast episode Cameron sits down with Tim Dawe - Independent Financial Adviser and partner at IWP to talk through the impact of separation through a finance lens. Separation doesn't just hit your finances. It hits everything — emotionally, physically, mentally. We break down what actually helps in those first few months: why fight-or-flight decisions backfire, why delaying a new home purchase is often smarter than rushing one, and the boring admin (Wills, super nominations) that people forget until it's too late. A settlement isn't the finish line. It's where the next chapter starts.

In this weeks episode, Cameron sits down with independent financial adviser at IWP - Brigitta Nadya - to talk through the impact of poor spending habits.
Everyone wants to talk about returns. Almost nobody wants to talk about cashflow — but it's usually the bigger lever. This episode looks at why a high income doesn't guarantee wealth, why lifestyle creep quietly derails good intentions, and why the person saving 20% of $90k often ends up ahead of the person earning $250k and spending it all. If you've ever wondered why the numbers aren't adding up despite doing "everything right" with investing, this one's for you.

The RBA and the Fed stayed on hold — 4.35% and 3.50–3.75% — as each waits for clearer signals before their next move. Inflation cooling but unevenly across the US and Australia, consumer and business sentiment recovering off weak bases, growth decelerating on both sides of the Pacific, and US manufacturing standing out with its strongest reading in three years. They also cover the latest equity and bond market returns and what's on the calendar over the coming weeks, including the RBA's 11 August decision and the Jackson Hole Symposium.
