*Excuse our audio this week, we were having some technical difficulties!
It's Black Maternal Health Week and we are talking to our first guest, Colleen Lovejoy, the founder of Sugar Heal Gang! Sugar Heal Gang was conceptualized in 2019 by Colleen in order to join forces with other healers she knew and trusted and reimagine what healing looks like in the African American community. Their current focus is providing high quality, culturally informed, trauma-resolving, holistic maternity services to birthing families. Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control report that Black women in the US are three to four times more likely to die from complications of childbirth than white women. These preventable deaths occur regardless of income or education levels and speak to the deep-seeded racism in the US health care system.
The Black Maternal Health Fund was initiated by the collective in 2020 in order to provide essential maternity care services to BIPOC families who were choosing to birth outside of hospitals due to long-standing health care bias exacerbated by the global pandemic.
In her private practice, Seline Vibes, acuvibrational therapy is used to address mental, physical, emotional and energetic imbalances in individuals and couples. Her innovative maternity care protocols have been used for miscarriage prevention, pre-term labor prevention, regulating heart rate, reducing blood pressure, natural labor induction, restarting stalled contractions, clearing infection, breastfeeding support, natural pain management and more.
