A very special day here at The Jared White Show…we’ve arrived at the 50th episode! So let us take some time out of our normal schedule to celebrate the journey so far and what will propel us towards the next 100th episode milestone.
–> Guess what? This was recorded in video form as well!
Thoughts from episode: “Consistency is hard! Putting stuff out before you reap the “rewards” of fame and fortune is not easy at all. John Campea talked about this in a recent video where he shared his challenge every day of having to convince himself to get out of bed early in the morning and start working on the next episode of The John Campea Show. Even for a seasoned broadcaster who makes a living from YouTube, this stuff isn’t easy. Or look at folks like Jimmy Fallon or Stephen Colbert doing their thing every weekday, every week (almost), year in and year out. They’re professionals.
You have to treat your creative work like a professional, even if you’re still an amateur (in the best sense of the word). To do truly meaningful work, to become great at your art, it takes consistency and perseverance to forge a real legacy.”
John Gruber’s feeling grumpy on the 10th anniversary of the iPad, but we’re here to revel in geek iPad fandom and—despite any lingering limitations—reflect on the importance and success of the iPad product category and muse on where the iPadOS software can go from here. Past, present, and future…all coming together here in this latest episode of The Jared White Show.
Happy Birthday iPad!

This week’s special topic is all about…writing tools!
Which apps I use to write and for organizing research, the environment and context in which I write, and what I like to do for inspiration to become a better writer. If you’re looking to shake things up this year and adopt new workflows or technology to jumpstart your writing career, this is the show for you.

In today’s episode, Jared dives into the swirl of consternation over what Twitter’s new reply controls might mean for the platform, product anniversaries of note in Apple history, all the wacky new cyberpunk and brutalist designs of phones, pianos, trucks, websites, etc., and tons of TV fandom followup. And we’re just getting started!

Bonus Patreon Episode coming soon:
Hello and welcome to 2020! We’re kickin’ into high gear on The Jared White show this year with a fresh new format where I answer listener questions each week, as well as a bonus episode exclusively for Patreon members. I go into all these changes on today’s show, PLUS:
The chasm (if any) in UI/UX quality between open source and commercial social platforms, the total meltdown over at Collider Video around their change in direction on YouTube, when to upgrade an OS vs install from scratch (or buy a new Mac or PC), tons of cool links showcasing the best of the internet, top movies and streaming TV of 2019, and a whole lot more.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey dropped a bombshell announcement yesterday about the decentralized, open-protocol-based future of Twitter, and The Jared White Show is here to talk about what it means for the “fediverse” (the existing federated social networking world of Mastodon, etc.), why Twitter is even doing this, how Dorsey has never been a clone of Zuckerberg, and much more. This just might be one of the most important episodes of the show to date!
Welcome to this very special BONUS episode of The Jared White Show where we talk about the most exciting topic in all of computing: file storage! But seriously, this episode is a deep dive into my very specific photography and videography workflows, and especially how I get it all done on my iPad Pro with Lightroom CC and LumaFusion. In addition, I cover the pros and cons of iCloud Drive, Nextcloud, and Dropbox, and make some recommendations for what you might want to choose for your cloud storage needs.
The collective Apple pro laptop userbase can finally breath a huge sigh of relief, as the brand-new MacBook Pro 16” with Magic Keyboard is HERE!!! (Now when’s that keyboard coming to the rest of the lineup??!!)
Also in the episode: Disney+ has landed (much to delight of children everywhere and, yes, many adults too), as well as Apple TV+, and Jared has to eat some crow because The Morning Show is FANTASTIC. All this and more…right here on The Jared White Show.
Hindsight is 2020, but that won’t stop us from talking about what kind of company and what kind of social network Facebook will be as we head into 2020 and the height of the U.S. political season. Will regulation force Facebook, Twitter, and other massive networks to interoperate with newer, smaller networks? Will the values of free expression online prevail? Will the specter of Chinese censorship change the debate on what we expect from social networks here in America? All in a day’s conversation here at The Jared White Show.
A few years ago I realized I was suffering from acute depression. It was affecting my work and my quality of life. Today, I am doing much better, but I must remain vigilant not to slide back into old patterns and negative mindsets. As a creative freelancer, there are certain pitfalls which can have an adverse effect on my mental health, and that’s what I talk about in today’s episode. NOTE: you don’t have to be a freelancer to appreciate today’s conversation! There’s a little something here for everybody. 🙂
