  • 56. "Molly's Game" // EvilTwin/Omnipollo // Brassiere Die du Ciel //
Women's Olympic Moguls, high stakes poker, and the Russian Mob. What do these have in common? Tune in to this week's episode of Fresh Hop Cinema for our discussion on Aaron Sorkin's film "Molly's Game." Starting Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba, this movie chronicles the true story of Olympic athlete Molly Bloom and her transition into hosting some of the world's most expensive and exclusive games of poker.
We drink a Pink Lemonade IPA which comes from a collaboration between Evil Twin Brewing (Denmark) and Omnipollo (Sweden) and Aphrodite Stout from Brassiere Dieu du Ciel (Quebec).

  • 55. "The Greatest Showman" // Tenaya Creek // Brouwerij de Molen //
Remember those candies from your childhood called Gushers? Well we don’t know if they’re around anymore but we’ll give you the next best thing: us GUSHING (eh eh?) over this movie. We thoroughly enjoyed The Greatest Showman, a film about the life and passion of PT Barnum. It’s a musical starring Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, and Zendaya with a soundtrack to warm even the chilliest of hearts. Seriously. One of the best soundtracks in ages. Then again what can you expect from the writing team that wrote the music for La La Land? Listen in as we drink and review beers from Las Vegas and Belgium in Tenaya Creek’s “Bonanza Brown” and Brouwerij de Molen’s “Goths & Vandals.”

  • 54. CHRISTMAS SPECIAL 2017 // "The Last Jedi" // Mikkeller // Delirium Tremens //
The holidays come but once a year, and thankfully, so does the inevitable next chapter in the Star Wars saga. To commemorate this special time (and because yes, Max also didn't quite see the movie), Max drinks a Four Loko. There's talk of past Christmases, future Christmases, racism, and plenty more. Plus, we put out our best ads EVER.
We do BRIEFLY discuss the newest Star Wars film "The Last Jedi" but this week, we leave that mostly to you. In addition to the Four Loco, we spend some time talking about beers from Belgium in the form of Mikkeller's "Hoppy Lovin' Christmas" and "Delirium Noël" from Delirium Tremens.
    Merry Christmas FHC listeners!

  • 53. "Coco" // 21st Amendment (San Francisco) // The Lost Abbey (San Marcos, CA)
Join us as we explore Dia de los Muertos in the Disney/Pixar film "Coco." "Despite his family's baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector, and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history." - Disney/Pixar

  • 52. "Three Billboards" // Device Brewing // CBE Beer Batch 1 //
We've long awaited the arrival of "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri"; a film by Martin McDonagh ("In Bruges," "Seven Psychopaths"). The story follows Mildred (Frances McDormand), an increasingly disgruntled mourning mother desperately trying to convince the police in her small town to solve the crime of her raped and murdered daughter. Also starring Sam Rockwell, and Woody Harrelson.
We drank "What the Haze" a NE IPA from Device brewing out of Sacramento and the first ever collaboration between Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and local beer group "Chico Beer Enthusiasts."

  • 51. "Lady Bird" // Revision Brewing (NV) // Bell's Brewery (MI) //
This week on Fresh Hop Cinema, we cover what might just be our favorite movie of the year in Greta Gerwig’s “Ladybird.” The film follows Christine “Ladybird” McPherson as she pushes through her senior year at her Catholic high school in Sacramento, CA. Finding your way into adulthood is never an easy task and “Ladybird” explores what can happen when this already nuanced time of self-discovery in one’s life gets complicated, and often strained, by tensions at home, the fluidity of friendships, an ever-changing romantic landscape and the pressure of “what happens next.”
We drink a slew of beers including:

1- “Jewel Box,” a NE IPA from Revision Brewing in Sparks, NV which exceeds our expectations.
2- “Two Hearted Ale” from Bells Brewery out of Comstock, MI. With a history of accolades (including recently having beaten Pliny the Elder in a national taste test), our hopes for this beer were high. Sadly, we weren’t sure this ale was up to par.

3- Our friend and patron of the show John Wollam drops in for a surprise beer review. Stay tuned!

Please consider leaving us a rating or review on iTunes or wherever you listen to podcasts. It helps other people find the show and, come on, it’s almost Christmas.

  • 50. “Justice League.” Prairie. Omnipollo.
UPDATE: Secret Trail Brewery Review episode will be in your feeds this Saturday 11/25.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Hopefully this episode finds you in time to help soothe some of your holiday travels. Our 50th episode has landed, and boy does this feel like a landmark! We discuss the very ‘meh’ Justice League- DC’s latest superhero film (Let’s be honest, there’s nothing that’ll beat Wonder Woman). HOWEVER, we also get to drink and discuss some very not ‘meh’ beers in the forms of Prairie “Birthday Bomb!,” “Christmas Bomb!,” and Omnipollo’s “Noa Pecan Mud Cake Stout.” This was a tasty episode!

Be sure to check out Jonny’s recommendation by listening to the Stuff You Should Know podcast. Also, please review us on iTunes. It's Thanksgiving.
