In this powerful episode of the Fresh P Podcast, I’m joined by Zola Lamothe—an educator at heart, activist, changemaker, and photographer—whose work is preserving erased Black history and uplifting voices through the lens of art and purpose.
Zola takes us on the journey behind her community-centered project, Unveiling a Forgotten Legacy, which began during her time as a student leader at IUPUI. Sparked by a moment during a campus protest in 2020, Zola discovered the lost history of the vibrant Black neighborhoods that once thrived around Indiana Avenue—communities later displaced to build the IUPUI campus.
From entering a photography contest and receiving a $10,000 grant, to interviewing families and channeling the spirit of Sankofa from her time studying abroad in Ghana, Zola shares how this project helped her step fully into her purpose.
🎧 In this episode:
- The power of protest and student leadership
- Turning art into activism with Unveiling a Forgotten Legacy
- Honoring displaced Black communities through photography

This episode is a moving reminder of the importance of remembering, reclaiming, and restoring what was lost. Zola’s work is history in action—and a blueprint for how we move forward.
