In which the Mister and Miss Angie join me in reviewing CONCLAVE (2024), from a novel by Robert Harris, the film has a screenplay by Peter Straughan (winner of the 2025 Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award) and is directed by Edward Berger. After the death of the Pope, Thomas Lawrence (a riveting performance by the always luminescent Ralph Fiennes), the Dean of Cardinals, must convene a conclave to choose the new leader of the Catholic Church. Troubled by his own faltering faith, Thomas must make some hard choices to uphold his responsibilities while also dealing with the ambitions of his fellow Cardinals. The powerhouse cast includes Isabella Rossellini, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Lucian Msamati, Jacek Koman, Carlos Diehz, Thomas Loibl, Brian F O'Byrne and Sergio Castellitto. The film clocks in at 2 h, is rated PG and is currently streaming on Prime Video but also to buy/rent on Prime Video. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
